Current Rx Meds:
Atarax, Ditropan, Elmiron
Prior to pregnancy: The above 3 meds PLUS Neurontin, Topamax, Loratadine, continuous OrthoCyclen, Lidocaine Patches PRN, Temazepam PRN, & Vicodin PRN
Hooray for babies!
Misc. lifesavers: Hot baths, ThermaCare Heat Wraps, Ice Packs. The IC Diet has changed my life.
Didn't work for me:
Detrol LA, Amitryptiline, Morphine, Percocet, TENS unit, Interferential Pain Stimulator Unit, Hypogastric Plexus Nerve Block
IC (Mod-Severe) since 1996
UPDATE: 5/21/08 Pregnancy and breastfeeding afterwards have alleviated my IC symptoms more than anything, EVER. Most days are 100% pain free & I now have normal frequency (as long as I take these 3 meds).
My little sweetie! Jack weighed 9 lbs 12 oz and was born via c-section on Feb. 28, 2008...

That does really suck that you missed your prom but you graduated from high school which is a really big deal. You should be very proud of yourselfChristine
I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.
I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

Hey, you're right around my age then, aren't you? Cool
I just graduated on Sunday. Here's me in my cap and gown:
Actually, I'm not gonna lie, it's my friend's cap and gown from last year. She's in college now, and I was too cheap to buy my own, so I used hers. She went to the same school I did, so it's the exact same one that everyone has this year anyway. It was just slightly long on me, since she's taller and all. But our school makes us girls wear these funky yellow caps and gowns anyway.
Sorry you missed prom, but, you know what? I went to prom, and I thought it was overrated. I actually came here and made a post here about it.
Well, I just got back from my senior prom. And I can't help but think it was completely overrated. I had been counting down for a month, I bought an expensive dress, had my hair done, my makeup done, and I went expecting to have a magical night. My date got a really nice tux, and we got each other the corsage and boutonniere. But when I went, it was just... a dance. Just like every homecoming and turnabout for the last four years. There was nothing magical or romantic. I kept thinking, is this all there is to it?
Halfway through, I could tell some of my friends were disappointed too, so we all went to this one chick's house and had our own little party there
I know this probably doesn't help much right now, but I thought prom wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
But anyway, if you ever wanna talk about this IC stuff with someone your age, I'll be here on the boards. Let me know if you'd like my e-mail address, I'm not that good with keeping up with private messages. But my point is that I know how it feels to be young and have IC; I've had it since I was 15.
You are not alone
Chronic conditions: IC, bipolar disorder, Lown-Ganong-Levine syndrome, Raynaud's disease, bile reflux, scoliosis
Current IC treatments: menstrual suppression
Daily treatments for other conditions: Neurontin, Zyprexa, Cymbalta, Modafinil
As-needed treatments for other conditions: Klonopin, Ambien

Congrats on graduation!!! I am sorry you missed your prom. I hear that it is not the exciting though (if that makes you feel any better) but I wouldn't know because I am only a freshman. I think some else posted a thread saying that she wasn't that impressed by prom.IC Awareness

Congrats on Graduating! I can't imagine how hard it must be to be a student with IC. My symptoms started right after I graduated from college. I don't think I could be in school right now the way I feel!
I am so sorry you missed your prom. I didn't graduate from high school (got my GED instead) and so I missed my prom too. Most of my friends said it was over-rated and VERY overpriced! Two years later I got to be a brides maid in my friend's wedding and that was like a prom to me: getting dressed up, being with friends, dancing all night! I hope you will be able to have your own special night some day soon!Rachel

CONGRATS on graduating and I'm sorry about your prom! I graduated about two years ago and IC completely ruined highschool for me. I used to be a great Cross Country runner and I worked my butt off to be as good as i was IC made me miss my state meet and with it i missed my chances of getting a scholarship. I know just how it feels to basically lose all control of your life. I can't run anymore casue it causes pretty bad flare ups, but despite evrything its not the end of the world. It took me a long time to come to terms with everything, but you cant let it take over your life. good luckComment
