  • Whooping cough

The past week I had a horrible yeast infection from taking an anti biotic for a long time. I told my Uro he agreed at first now hes saying that I need to take the anti biotic again. I have been feeling so horrible everyday for the past month I cant get out of bed except to pee and drink my meds. I saw him yesterday and he just still wont take me seriously, now hes talking about sending me to UCSF and putting the hydro/cysto off until mid February. He insists that the blood in my pee is normal.

So today I couldn't handle it anymore I went to see my regular doctor because Ive been coughing so much and sneezing even running fevers all day for a week but of course im not being taken seriously. My sisters keep laughing and teasing me and saying that im just sick in the head My doctor really thinks I have whooping cough but I have no idea how I got it, I really hardly leave my bed. So now im taking a Z pack using nasal spray and 2 inhalers along with all of my IC and depression Meds. I really need some advice to keep myself sane. The test for the whooping cough should be coming back within a couple days. But I really feel like I just cant go on like this.

I had whooping cough when I was a child, but most people have had vaccine in this day and age. I hope that's not what you have.

When we were kids we got a series of 5 dtap immunizations, the p is pertussis which is whooping cough. They have discovered over the years the immunity for pertussis wears off and it is recommended that we get booster of pertussis every 15-20 years. Whooping cough is treated with zithromax. There have been outbreaks in several states, babies, elderly and immuno compromised people are most at risk.

Whooping cough is on the rise. They are finding that people need more than just the childhood immunizations for it and are offering boosters for jr. high age kids and adults.

We had whooping cough in our home about 5 years ago. My son's girlfriend, who seemed to have a fragile immune system, got it from somewhere, my son got it from her (he can't take the immunizations for pertussis because he had terrible reactions to it when he was a baby) then my husband and I got it. It is a miserable miserable cough. The phlegm is sticky, like marshmallow that has been played with. We would cough and cough until we couldn't breathe any more. The phlegm would get "stuck" in the airways until we were gasping. Horrible horrible. The girlfriend ended up in the hospital which is why the rest of us even knew what it was. Please stay in touch with your doctor about this, and if you get so you are having trouble breathing, have someone take you to the ER right away.

I had not heard or read about the whooping cough in a while. (until now)Oh! I don't even know the test that you took to check for it, but you do have some of the right symptoms now. If so, I would figure you are taking the right thing, Zithromax, for it. By the way, I(we) don't think it is all in your head. Come on. Some of us may have wished we could learn we were just having a bad dream and/or that it was all in our minds. Anyway, I don't know what the one doctor wants to send you to UCSF for. It seems like you don't want that. (and that I will figure you are not officially diagnosed yet) Yep

Quite a few years ago now my son got whooping cough, he had not been vacinated as he had a terrable reaction to the vaccine.

He was 5 at the time, I know how he got it my husband took him xmas shopping and ran into a friend who had his kids out shopping and they had it.

My son was sick from Jan 1 to the end of June. He since has had it 2 more times. My husbnd has had it 2x's. Adults often don't know they have it as it dosen't present the say way with the classic whop as in kids.

Also adult ussally feel they just have a bad cold, and there is a time frame you need tobe tested in for it too show up.

I have had the test it is nasty they stick a stick up your nose and it burns like H***.

It is thought that the vaccinte dose not last a life time, but also the virus has muttated.

You can catch it bysharing the same air space for I think 30 mins with someone who has it in the active form, my sons whole hockey team and families were treated for it, but not his kindergarden class. In all about 45 people had to be treated for it, 2 people decided not to take the ab's to prevent it and both of them got sick with it.

It also used to be called the 120day cough.

It is not nice and really wipes you out, but once treated with AB's you still cough but you are not contagious.

I hope it is not whooping cough.
