I was diagnosed with IC after a really bad UTI. I had constant pain and urgency and burning and I had every test run on me and they couldn’t find any other answer but IC. They recommended PT and I was willing to try anything. My physical therapist was amazing and after showing me exercises to relax my pelvic floor muscles (I had about 3 months of PT) I have felt completely normal for the last 8 months. I got my life back! So if you are skeptical about trying PT please give it a chance because I was at my lowest point, just wanted to die I was in so much constant pain and it completely brought me back to my normal life.

For asking me to be more specific, it was exercises specifically targeting the relaxation of the pelvic floor. The Dr and the Physical Therapist both said to stop doing kegels that it only makes it worse. I was so surprised by that since we as women are always told to do kegels. So instead I was doing the opposite and relaxing the pelvic floor which made my bladder stop spasming. She gave me these exercise resistance bands which I would hook over the top of the door and then pull down with resistance etc. It sounds weird but doing these exercises you can feel the pelvic floor muscles relax, and over time all my IC symptoms went away. I’m sure it’s not the answer for everyone but if your urologist suggests PT I’m just saying it’s worth a shot since I saw success.

Thank you, Jolie --- especially thank you for the reminder that kegels can be a problem for those of us with IC.
