  • Apparently this is a remission

I went to my doctor and told him that up until that week I had been feeling great. No burning, no pressure, no real frequency (went to the bathroom more than others but no more than 6-7 times a day). I could go more places comfortably (car ride still bothered me a little). He told me that's what he calls a remission! :woohoo: It lasted about 2 to 3 weeks. Then it was blown to hell for a week when my PTs tranie guy did something to my back that made everything hurt (back, knee, leg, bladder, ect.) But it's back to better now. No burning, no irritation, no urgency, some frequency but it's "that time of the month" and I am loosing water weight.

Anyway, I am so happy that I don't need any pain meds (havn't really needed them except twice this month--2 pills).

My mom had planned a trip to Disney World in FL for April1-April6. So hopefuly it will last through my trip. The uro did however write me out a script for Darvocet N (12 pills) for when I go incase I have a lot of pain. How nice of him. In the year and a half I have been seeing him, he has never written anything stronger than Ultram 50mg 2x daily for 20 pills. He isn't a fan of giving narcotics to children. But I guess he figures that since I am going to be far away and have been responsible med wise. He told me if my mom dragged me on the "It's a Small World" (which as described by him as strange and annoying--it involves being in a boat flating down a "river" with small robotic dolls from around the world singing, "it's a small world after allllll" over and over) ride he would understand if I need to take a pill or two to dull the pain. He makes some joke attempts that are actually funny.

Anyway, I am so enjoying this while it lasts! Gonna stick to the IC diet like a champ. and make sure not to eat anything that could make me flare.

    Medical "Issues":
    IC
    GERD
    Tachycardia(resting rate is 125-130 )
    Medicastions:
    Tramadol-as needed (IC)-50mg
    Elmiron 200mg twice a day
    Levsin .125mg 1-2 pills 4 times a day

That's great to hear! Hope it lasts for you. My remission lasted about 4mos. Having a few more flares now, but think its b/c uro downed my Elmiron to twice a day and I kinda went nuts and ate a bunch of "bad" foods Still its much better than it was before. I feel like I have my life back finally!

Yay! Thanks for sharing the good news!
        Kim

        Diagnosed August 2001

Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)

Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.

              Works for me

I'm wondering if anyone else has had experience with probiotics? It seems that since I've been taking them, I have not had a flare up. For me, it was routine to have flare ups regularly with accompanying UTIs to follow.
It's been almost 3 months now and I'm enjoying it.

              Just wondering, thanks

I believe probiotics are good because sometimes they clear up a lot of the yeasties that bother I believe bladders and such. I take probiotics 50 billion colonies which is a lot. I also have gi issues and a real, real bad case of candida albicans.
not yet dx with ic-diagnosing myself as of aug 2006
                diagnosed ic-october 5 2006(huh just what I thought)

cod liver oil (for vitamins a and d)
bladder is not getting worse but maybe better
                diagnosed ibs-september 27, 2006
don't know if it's ibs or some other underlining condition. hair loss, weight loss, constipation
all this even though I eat.
                Mercury toxicity with Candida Albicans
                Realy toxic and sick
Dental almagams removal and chelation for heavy metal toxins and candida cleansing as soon as fillings are out

I started probiotics about 3 weeks ago and knock on wood, I haven't had a flair. I hope this means I am responsing well to the probiotics. If not I will enjoy this much loved remission as long as it will last!!
