  • I'm in Remission I think!

I feel kind of guilty posting about being in remission while so many others are still suffering, but maybe posts like this will give hopes to the ones suffering that they will reach remission too. And the newbies will know too that remission is possible in many cases.

It seems the Atarax (Hydroxyzine is the real name I guess?) 25mg per day and Elmiron 300 mg per day (three pills per day) are really doing the trick for me.

The main inflammation for me for some reason was in the trigone area (base of the bladder and urethra) so I guess that's why I'm getting relief kind of quick - I'll bet the medicine coats the bottom most easily, like when you put sugar in a glass and it settles to the bottom. Maybe. I dunno.

Anyhoo, I do still take Prelief, I don't even really take it with foods necessarily but take it as almost like a calcium supplement just to help my bladder out. I figure it's a good source of calcium plus it helps heal my bladder.

I'm also thinking of ordering Cysta-Q so that my bladder stays healthy now that it is patched up from the Elmiron.

At this point, I am able to drink juice and eat chocolate without any ill effect whatsoever on my bladder.

I was even able to be intimate again with my husband, will no flare afterwards and no pain during, which in my mind was a real miracle! My husband and I were both so thrilled that this dimension of our marriage was able to be restored.

My fervent hope and prayer is that everyone who has IC will quickly come to the same comfort level that I am experiencing now and that there will soon be a cure for IC so that no one will have to suffer anymore from this.

    Love, ICY

I agree - do NOT feel guilty!!! That is wonderful and what we all wish for!!!

It was messages like this one from you that gave me sooooo much hope when I was new here. Make sure you still come around, OK? We need positive posts about healing, too.

      Diagnosed August 2001

Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)

Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.

That is such great news. I was in remisson for a week and now I am flaring. I have to get some more prelief that seemed to help my bladder. I should try the samples I have from my ic support group meetings. There is hope with ic. I pray there is a cure soon. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
Hang in there , There is hope.

I'm very happy for you. I also don't post much because I very seldom have symptoms and when I do they are mild. That makes me feel guilty but just so everyone knows it took me awhile to get here but it's wonderful and I hope and pray that everyone reaches that point. Happy Holidays!!!

                      Success
