  • 7 Month Remission!

Haha. It seems most of us come here solely to vent at times (Myself included). So here's a positive message of hope.

I was diagnosed in 2008 with IC. I would say the two years following were my worst. I became heavily addicted to high tolerance opiod pain meds. I now believe my abuse of these meds made my symptoms even worse at times. In July of 2010, I went through an opiate detox program to get off everything since I was no longer able to experience relief using them consistently. After I completed the 2 week long detox process (which wasn't easy, but well worth it), my IC flare-Ups and symptoms began to subside. I regained control of my life! I no longer awoke 4-5 times a night to urinate. As a matter of fact, most nights went completely uninterrupted. The burning pains before and after urination had subsided. Not to mention, the lower back pain. For me this was the worst! And now here I was pain free!

So here I am 30 years old, with a 7 month lead on IC. Something I never thought possible! I hope others will take caution when it comes to the tendency of over medicating. Almost unsure of a flare-up even was anymore, I assumed I had one that started yesterday. Thanks to Jill's video blogs, I came to the realization, that it might not be a flare-up, but an actual UTI. Even after suffering through what I thought were the usual symptoms, I finally went to the hospital. Sure enough, there was bacteria in my culture. Something that could have been much if left untreated.

I like to thank all those who have contributed to make this site the success that it is. The greatest satisfaction comes from knowing that I'm not alone in this struggle and there are treatment options available! For i have found, there's always an opportunity to quiet our suffering, although it might be the most difficult to face.

Have had frequent so-called UTIs without the actual bacteria present since I was a toddler. Finally I met an amazing urologist in New Jersey who showed me I wasn't going crazy.

Diagnosed with IC in September 2008 via Cystoscopy, KCl test, Flow Test & Ultrasound .

Thank you Linda & Gennifer for your warm wishes!

Dr. Steven Orland is the urologist I have seen since my diagnosis. He is a terrific doctor that has always been there at all hours of the day and night if needed. Extremely empathetic, he is always open to suggestion. So much so that he encourages you to do your own research, thus taking an active role in your own recovery.

He was the one who first told me what IC even was. If you do happen to make an appointment at one of his offices, I recommend making it with only him. He does work with other doctors. Some of whom don't demonstrate the same compassion.

He has offices near Capital Health Systems Hospital in Mercer Co. NJ & St. Mary's Hospital in Bucks Co. Pennsylvania.

I'd like to hear more about this doc as I'm on the hunt for a new one because my former one no longer accepts my insurance. What was his treatment plan for you? Is he at all into natural remedies or just conventional? I'm actually in the midst of a worse flare due to trying a new drug, so I hear you on overmedicating. I'd love to not have to take any meds but I just don't know if that's possible anymore.
Glad to hear you're doing well. If you'd rather chat privately about your doc, just shoot me a PM.
Mom to two littles (remissions while pregnant/breastfeeding)
          Sufferer since mid-90s
          Finally dx'd properly much later
