  • Spasms

    Hi there,
I just posted somewhere else on this list and realized I was in the wrong spot. I was just diagnosed in January with IC. Can someone tell me if these 'spasms' people talk about are...after urination I feel a painful contracting type feeling that can bring tears to my eyes.....sometimes I feel nothing. I also feel that my bladder is full when it is not. Are these symptoms what other people have? Also I feel when I am overtired or did not get enough sleep the night before that my symptoms are worse? Does this happen to others?

I used to get those spasms as well, and sometimes they would vary, but most times yep - they'd bring tears to my eyes. Sometimes it would feel like i had to "bear down", there was nothing I could do to stop it, it was annoying and painful! And for me it was always at the end of urination. But, later on I would have some that felt like someone reached up and pinched my urethra or yanked on it, lol. What helped me was an Rx for Ditropan, it really made a difference for me.

And a full-bladder-feeling when it isn't is a common symptom we ICers deal with. I know I had it and many many have. And speaking for myself, I too would always notice a slight increase in symptoms that seemed to reflect the amount of sleep I got. The less I got, the more I had. Probably because my body was tired and as capable to deal with them, but that's just my theory.
    Hugs,
    Tracey

Like Traceyann, the bladder spasms can be painful! I also have high-tone pfd, which I guess is pretty common for us with ic. These spasms arn't as painful, and feel like fluttering around my vagina. Its very annoying. The bladder ones are the pressure and full-bladder feeling for me too, and they are bad enough to keep me up every night Hope this helps, but keep in mind we are all different!

Like tracey said, I also get that eye tearing pain right after I urinate. I always walked out of the bathroom in tears. It's painful... I have been having alot of pressure. Almost like someone is standing on my bladder and I almost pee my pants. It's very very uncomfortable. I hope you feel better soon.

Wow it is just amazing how so many people can such different symptoms. No wonder there is no cure for this disease!! I am going to my doctor today and maybe I can get some kind of medication. I have read that a few people on this forum take medications. I had tried Ditripan before I was diagnosed and that just made me sick so that one is out. I am going to have to be sure to get a good nights sleep from now on. Before my surgery I was up 8 times a night now I only get up once so I some good news but have now developed this irritating spasm/burning after urination and a constant 'weird' feeling.......good grief.........there has to be an end to all of this for all of US!!!

              YES LEELEE!!!

Its sooooooooooooooo annoying. I hope my new uro will give me something for that. It grosses me out! I take ditropan as a prn for bladder spasms, but can;t take it everyday due to IBS-C. It helps a little I guess. But for it to go away completley, I have to wait it out.

I also get spasms. Mostly after urinating, sometimes after sex. Definitely when I try to have a BM. I liken it to feeling like you need to push when having a baby.

Yes to both questions. I have the spasms sometimes during and after and I feel like I have to go even though I just went. Sometimes I feel like have to go more after I have gone. I'm tired all the time too but I think after a while your body gets tired out from the pain and having to deal with getting things done during the day. Plus not getting a good nights sleep.
