I am able to take 1 regular strength buffered aspirin at a time for headaches, etc. without any problems.

Ibuprofen, Advil & Motrin are all the same. Vicaden is actually hydrocodone and its a perscription you need to get from you doctor.
I don't know anything about Asprin, I've actually never taken it for anything (doesn't it make your stomach bleed ??) Like I said, I can take Tylenol too and it doesn't bother me.

All ibuprofen should cause the same problem because the brand and the generic are all the same stuff pretty much. When I flared it was from ibuprofen that I bought at Kmart, the Kmart brand. Vicoden has hydrocodon I think (probably spelled that wrong but I'm not getting up to check my bottle of pills) and tylenol together. I'm taking it now for pain

I'd say Advil could definitely be the source of your problems.
What is Vicaden? is the over the counter or a rx?
While I'm asking I assumed that Excedrin was no go since it has caffine in it. What about regular asprin? Is that ok for IC?

Do all ibprofen meds cause baldder pain (i.e., motrin, asprin etc..?) . Which pain meds are suppose to be helpful? I take extra strenght tylenol when I need it now, but that is it.
For all you ladies who are on pain meds prescribed by your doctors, which ones are less likely to bother the bladder or do they all bother the bladder?
Jen

Well, I just learned something new as well. I been taking Advil on and off at night to help my back pain but I wake up later on with bladder pain thought it was from holding it too long-- it might still be from that - who knows. I guess I won't be using Advil anymore. Thanks.

Hello & Welcome
I wouls recommend the site that Jen suggested. As for Advil I couldn't take it either. It always caused a flare, but good old Tylenol worked just fine for me. I would check with your Doctor to see What he/she recommends. also everything you need to know about IC you can find on this site as well as friends that are there for you 24 /7. Good luck.

Advil will cause me a big flare unless I take Prelief with it. I didn't realize it was a problem until the one day I was at work and took the Advil w/o the Prelief because I didn't have any more at work w/ me. About an hour and a half later I started burning really bad and had to take a pain pill to get it under control.

An explanation of hydrodistention can be found at: http://www.ic-network.com/handbook/dist.html. In addition to a treatment modality, it can be used to diagnose IC -- if the bladder wall develops bleeding places and/or ulcers can be seen, that usually suggests IC.
Advil is a trigger for some ICers. You may want to try taking another anti-inflammatory/pain med for a little while to see if your pain improves.
Finally, "Painful Bladder Syndrome" is becoming another name for IC. Generally, it's not a different disease...different doctors are simply using different terminology at the moment.

Ibroprofen bothers alot of people with IC/Painful bladder. It may very well be the Advil but also could be that your antibiotic isn't fully treating your infection. Hope you feel better soon.

Help me understand what is happing to me.
i have been takeing elmoron for 4 months.. and i really thought i was alot better until... 2 weeks ago.. when a urine test said i had a bladder infection.i went on bactrim and it seems to be working.. but i have been taking Advil for back pain and now i have this buring in my bladder after i take the advil. I was wondering if anyone has had a reaction to advil. My dr, won't say this is IC right now is calling it Painful Baldder.. She has said that the next test would be cysto ,this would be my second cysto had one in Nov.that only showed on a badly inflamed baldder wall . This cyst will look for a ulcer or something else that would harbor the bactria .. and i think she said it would be with distentions, what is that ??
thanks for your information...........
