  • Stress Related Chest Pains

A few months ago, when I was going from doctor to doctor trying to find out what was wrong, I started having what I guess you could call chest pains. It is hard to describe what they felt like, I guess they were not really painful, just and uncomfortable feeling(maybe even indigestion. I had my doctor check heart and everything was ok and she said it can be caused by stress. I wonder if it was stress from being scared an not knowing what was wrong.
It is very hard on anyone who starts having these Ic symptoms and the doctors keep trying to treat for uti's. I am glad they are starting to know more about this, however, I wish it had been easier for all of us who have had to go through 5 or 6(many more) appointments, before getting any kind of relief. Has anyone else experienced chest pains at the onset of their symptoms?

The only time I have had chest pain was from my gall bladder.

I am so sorry that you have chest pains. I also had chest pains with my gall bladder, it was taken out. But I also have chest pain with this acid reflux (GERD) problems.

My husband was under alot of stress about 7 years ago, he had chest pains. Almost felt like a heart attack, his heart was fine. I think stress can do it but if it continues and keep getting worse, I could check for other things. IC can put you under a lot of stress especially if you can't get proper help. I sure do hope you start feeling better.

I also suffer from stress-related chest pains. They happen sometimes when I don’t feel stressed, but my doctor told me the body’s reaction to stress can take a while to show up. On one occasion I went to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack.

My suggestion is to just keep an eye on what you’re experiencing. Make sure your doctor knows about it. If you develop any more symptoms suggestive of a heart attack, get to a hospital.

Otherwise, what works for me while I’m having the chest pain is doing deep breathing and a little meditation. I close my eyes, relax my body, and slowly breathe in and out. To the rhythm of my breathing, I will think of a phrase over and over, usually something like “Relax. Calm.” It’s definitely a difficult thing to do, because the stress of having the chest pains in turn causes more stress. But, focusing on nothing else but the breathing will relax your body and allow the right amount of oxygen in.

I used to get chest discomfort (wouln't call it pain) from my gallbladder. Not so much from my GERD.

Once when I took 2 50mg Tramadol and 2 25mg Elavil at the same time I got crushing chest pain. Felt like someone parked a minivan on my chest.

          Medical "Issues":
          IC
          GERD
          Tachycardia(resting rate is 125-130 )
          Medicastions:
          Tramadol-as needed (IC)-50mg
          Elmiron 200mg twice a day
          Levsin .125mg 1-2 pills 4 times a day

I don't have the pains or discomfort anymore, it was just around the time that I started having IC symptoms and I was stressed because I didn't know what was wrong. I had a doc check my heart and she found nothing wrong, She was also unable to figure out the ic and sent me on to another doc. She was nice, but I think she may have thought I was imagining things as far as the ic synptoms go.
