I was diagnosed with IC about 8 months ago and it's been really hard on my relationship with my boyfriend. Before the pain started, I was very sexually active and had a very high sex drive. Ever since the pain started, sex is the last thing on my mind! I thought maybe it was the Elmiron but my doc said that is not a side effect. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? My boyfriend is very frustrated (I completely understand why) and I am too. I'm hoping my sex drive will come back and soon!

Hello There.. I think most of us here with IC have the same feelings you have.. When im hurting sex is the last thing I want.. You know we do have another web site that talks about sex and differant ways to please you partner I will give you the link below..Hope you find it helpful

Meds For IC: Lyrica-25mg Glucosamine-500 MSM-500mg, Prosed Ds -When Flaring
Other Meds: Levlite- Continious Birtcontrol, Micardis-40mg for High Blood Pressure
Meds I have Tried:
Topamax,Tofranil, Elmiron, Atarax, Cymbalta, Elavil, Enablex, Detral La, Prydium.
Lexapro< Bad reaction to this med!
Intstills, could not continue them due to some kind of reaction after 3rd instill. Tasted the lidocaine in my mouth, tongue and lips went numb then went into what seemed like a panic attack. Shaking, racing heart, tingling face/head, blood pressure shot up..
Dx With IC in Nov 2006 with Hydro/Cysto
Hydro/Cysto Caused Bladder to Rupture.
Other Dxs-Vulvodynia,Fibro, Endo, IBS, HPV, Migraines, Spastic Colon, Mild Dysplasia.

You are not alone there. My husband and I have not had sex in sooo long due to all the pain I have. We do other intimate things ( cuddle etc..), but I just am not ready to have intercourse with all that is going on. Thankfully my hubby is a very sweet and understanding guy. It does get me depressed though, as before I got sick, I loved to be intimate with my husband, so I know how you feel. I miss it.

As awful as it is that all of us, or most of us feel this way about having Sex, I can not begin to tell you how much it really does help to know that I am not alone..... I have been fairly fortunate, that my pain is usually after sex, 12-24 hrs later....which to me is better, than having it during. However, 2 weeks ago my fiance and I were in the middle of it, and I got one of the worst pains of my life!! I tried to bare through it, but he could tell, and afterwards I just sat there and cried, b/c I felt so guilty about ruining the moment!! Since all this started I have had no desire at all, and the worst part is that we are getting married in 3 weeks, and I want our "intimacy" to be like a normal person.... I think this is one of the most frustrating parts of the disease, but like myself, it seems that a lot of us are fortunate to have very loving supportive partners that although they are frustrated, they love us more.... It really is hard on everyone not be like they used to be.Comment

Its very hard on all of us...I have been married just 2 years and I am so thankful I have a loving supporting husband.. We did have 8 months of wonderful sex.. But after the IC it all went down hill.. It makes me feel so sad for him.. He always says though I would stand by him.. and I would..Its just not fair

My sex drive comes and goes. When my IC is flaring we do not have sex but there are other things you can do. The meds I take affect my sex drive but I am still able to have sex with my husband. Sometimes we have to be careful especially with certain positions. And I take a warm bath afterwards. My husband is very understanding. Good Luck! PM me with any questions.Comment
