I suggest you read the diet information in the Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook. There are some foods that definitely cause burning and that's a good place to find out which ones.

I do think it's a good idea to see a urologist.

People with IC cannot drink Cranberry juice we explain it like its an acid bomb going off..IC does cause burning but it could also be your diet the things you eat will make you burn just as the cranberry juice did..I know I cannot drink any carbonated drinks even before I was Dg with IC due to the burning they caused.. But I would get a doctor to check you out maybe they can help you more.. Oh and one more thing.. Try a little baking soda with water it stops the burning and so does Tums good luck!

Question re: urine ph and burning on urination

I was wondering if any of you know or have tested your urine ph? The reason I am asking and forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong forum, but I have had burning with urination most every time I urinate for about 9 months now. I saw a urologist around 8 months ago who said they didn't find anything in my urine, no infection and no bacteria grew and he said he wasn't sure what was causing it - did not do cysto. A few weeks after that, when I still had the burning I talked to his nurse who said this burning could be caused by IC or it might just be my own body how it is. I have seen gynocologist who tested me for every disease as well. Well I do have an appointment in June to see a different urologist and maybe get cysto. But until recently, I was wondering if my urine is just to acidic or alkaline? I did test strips and when I get the burning I'd test it and it would read on the "acidic" side 6.0 ph. However, when I did a search on the internet, it contradicts saying that if your body/urine is too alkaline you get burning with urination. Then they said to drink cranberry juice to acidify it and relieve the burning. Well if I drink cranberry juice it feels as if someone lights a fire through my urethra while urinating. I eat mostly acidic ash foods thought. Does anyone out there possibly know which can cause burning with urination - acid or alkaline urine?
