I have my hydro/biopsy tomorrow and I am really afraid that the procedure will cause more spasms and pain. For those of you who have been through this, please tell me if you had a great deal of pain....did it cause more urgency and spasming afterwards...did it help? I don't think I will sleep a wink tonight and I am tempted to cancel the procedure in case it makes things worse. I have FINALLY gotten a bit of relief from the most recent insane urgency. I couldn't bare that beginning again as a result of this procedure. Thanks for any advice.

GoodLuck on the procedure tomorrow.The biopsy is very important to rule out other conditions.Youll be ok.Next time you will be able to decide if the hydro helps you at all.

Diagnosed with IC in 1994
Had symptoms since 1992
Three cystoscopies.One biopsy with hydrodistention.
This is what I have tried,Dmso cocktail,Elavil,Atarax,Hytrin,Detrol,Pyridium,Elmiron,Allegra,Augmenti n,Flomax,Ditrapan,Vesacare.
Sent urine samples about 10 years ago to the famous Dr Fugguzatto.Went through plenty of Dr's which took about 2 years for an IC diagnosis.I am considered having one of the worst IC conditions known to my doctors.

Your symptoms probably are going to get worse right afterwards. As long as your uro sends you home with some pain meds and some pyridum or something similar you should be fine. I felt really crappy for a couple of days and just really tired for a couple of days after that.Christine
I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.
I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

I am certainly not an expert on IC ( I am newly diagnosed) but my hydro/cysto was not a bad experience. In fact, I got considerable relief from my symptoms after the procedure. I had no pain from the cysto/hydro procedure. I did take it easy the day after (there was burning with urination) but that was it for me.
I am also on Cystoprotek, Elavil, Enablex and Vistaril.
