  • Burning pain in urethra

Is this part of the disease? I forgot to ask my uro yesterday. I told him about having bladder pains, urgency with very little urine coming out, frequency, pain during sex etc. but forgot to ask him about the urethral symptoms.

Does anyone else has that problem? Thanks!

I guess I'll just drink up more marshmallow root tea hmm...or take slippery elm

The burning can be a part of having interstitial cystitis. Are you on any medications?

I too experience urethral burning and pain. I was just diagnosed Feb 2nd so this is all new to me too. It was so bad this past Sunday I had to go to the ER. It felt like someone had a hot poker inserted in my bladder. They cathed me to get rid of the urine I was retaining and gave me pain meds. I realized that I had not been taking the diet seriously at all and this was what probably caused the pain to be so bad. I am currently trying to follow the diet.

I'm following the diet as well, and taking Cystoprotek but still have symptoms. Doc gave me Vicodin saying if the pain gets bad take one but how could you take it at work? It literally knocks me out...

Other meds I'm on: Wellbutrin XL 150, Klonopin, Lamisil 250 mg, and Microgestin 1/20 and no, it's not the meds because I've been taking them for quite a while and never had this problem.

Does the Elmiron help with urethral burning and such? or does it only help to rebuild the GAG layer in the bladder?

          Hi 425runner,
My main symptom is urethral burning. I know, it's horrible! My bladder does get irritated if I eat the wrong things, but the urethral discomfort is my #1 wost symptom. I have got much better over the years & I believe alot of that is due to the Elmiron. I think my irritation is actually the bottom of my bladder, near the urethra opening. I think the Elmiron helps coat that. I am MUCH better than i was years ago. One thing I learned was not to reduce my Elmiron. I went down to 100mg a day for months & then BAM, had the WORST flare! I now stick to 300mg a day. I have added a lot of foods back in to my diet but watch the acid stuff! And drink lots of water!
