How can I get relief NOW !

I have had IC symptoms for 15 years. I saw a Urologist on Wednesday and his belief is that IC is a Neurological disorder and the physical state of the bladder is normal. It's all about pain receptors. He wants to do a Cystoscope but offered me no medication to relieve my symptoms. My symptoms completely went away for 2 days but are back again. Can it go away and come back like this ? My family Dr has agreed to treat me for now. She gave me Detrol for the urgency ( which never goes away ) and Elmiron which my insurance company is fighting due to costs. All I want is some relief ! I just picked up the Detrol and will start it tonight. Also trying Benadryl as I see it mentioned on these boards. I am terrified that the Detrol won't help. What can I do for the urgency if it doesn't work ? I am seeing another Urologist on May 5th for a 2nd opinion. At this point I don't care what the doctors want to diagnose me as having, I just want the symptoms treated. Any advice is welcome ! This is only the 3rd time I have had a bad flare, how do people cope with this long term ? It is so depressing.

Hi, I hope the detrol works for you and your urgency. I do find that these oab meds help me quite a bit so hopefully you will have some relief. If one doesn't work, often another will. They usually work fairly quickly, within a couple of days. Antihistamines do help alot of people usually too so maybe this combination will help you tonight. Often taking 1/4 tsp to 1/2 tsp of baking soda in a glass of water a few times a day will help stop a flare. Only try this if you don't have high blood pressure.
Sorry you're down, just know, that most people DO find treatments that will help them. Are you trying to follow the diet? I have a link before. Most people are also very successful with symptoms following the diet.

I had a similar experience at first. The uro wasn't offering me anything for relief but just telling me what he thought it was. I finally realized I had to tell him I wanted something for relief of the symptoms and the pain instead of waiting for him to offer me something. My symptoms would come and go also. One day I was perfectly fine and the next day it was horrible. This is one of the things that can be so maddening about this condition. It seems so random at times.
