I was doing fine today went to church got baptised and my brother took me out to eat IC friendly food only. My ex calls and upsets me tremendously now I am in a mild flare. So, yes stress can cause flares, sad but true.

    stress

    Hi EmilyAnn,
So sorry you're feeling stressed and in pain. I know how hard that is.
Stress most definately can cause a flare, IMHO. I know the more stressed I get the worse my bladder is.
Stress causes us to tighten our muscles which is not good for IC and I think it also causes our bodies to release chemicals that we need for reacting to the cause of the stress. Unfortunately, if the stress becomes chronic, not just a quick thing, then those chemicals are hanging around and causing inflammation.
Can you try some warm baths, maybe? Those are pretty relaxing. Meditation works well too, and you can do it at home using meditation DVD's or CD's. Also try some deep breathing. Sounds silly, but it works. Breathe in while pushing tummy out ,and then breathe out while letting tummy down. Do nice, slow breaths.
Sometimes distraction works too. Read a book, listen to soothing music and just let your mind wander,(careful, though-my mind wandered and I'm still waiting for it to come back)!
I hope something from the above helps a little.
    Feel better,
    Laurie

    Stress

I'm fairly certain I stressed myself into a flare. Is that even possible? I saw that stress can cause it, but how does that even work? I was in such bad pain last night! What can I do?
