  • Wondering how my symptoms compare...

I have frequency (about 1x/hr) and urgency (once I have to go, I have to GO - it hurts to hold it). And a constant ache. Since last year, I have always been "aware" of my right kidney, sometimes my left, and always my bladder. I don't think people usually notice their bladder. Mine is always noticeable, whether through dull aching pain, a few random sharp shooting pains, or just feeling bloated and full just above my pubic bone.

During my two "flares" - which I now think they were, given that I was downing pure cranberry juice - I had pain and burning during and after urination. But normally, the pain is not in my urethra. It's just a constant ache in my bladder, whether my bladder gets too full (which is constantly the case as I try to drink as much water as possible), or if my urine isn't really diluted (which keeps me from peeing every hour, but increases the aching and stabbing pains).

I've gone through phases where I have to get up during the night 2-3x to pee, but I'm not in that phase right now. But I do have to get up about 6am to pee, or it aches too much to sleep comfortably.

It sounds like my urgency and frequency aren't nearly as uncomfortable as for some people. The week or so before and after my flares, I was going every half-hour at least, but that died down.

Do others have just the constant ache and sharp pains as their main symptom? I didn't drink enough water yesterday, and also ate a club sandwich with ham turkey & bacon (!) and a tomato (!) and had a fake-sugar Gatorade (!) .. so today both my kidneys are going off like crazy, esp when I bend or twist, and my bladder is sending me OW messages. Duh, Ivy...

When I was in a flare I would go about every hour and get up about 2-3 times a night. When I had no irritation it would be a normal 3-4 hours in between voids. The irritation is what caused my frequency and for me it was a burning painful feeling that if it went on too long would eventually feel like my bladder was going into spasms.

When I was first diagnosed I had a constant "uti" feeling that would never go away by this I mean feeling of bladder fullness, pain after urination and a constant ache into my back. I'm doing better now that I've recently started new meds. I can actually say I've been pain free for over 8 days now.
