  • "Walking Little Allergy Gal" w IC

So, I visited a new allergist today and took the skin test. After the allergist surveyed all the welts on my back, she renamed me "Walking Little Allergy Gal". Surprise, surprise. Not really. However, I was dumbfounded by the fact that my big dog major allergens such as crabs, lobster and shrimp tested negative. Some of my IC friendly foods tested positive. Oh, boy. The docotr was very familiar with IC and decided to do further testing. Blood was drawn and will be tested for allergies. But, hey IC friends, I was just googling allergy testing and Elavil and antihistamines were listed as meds that could interfere with allergy testing. I wonder if my nighttime dose of 10mgs of Elavil could have influenced my tests. It is too late to call the doctor's office. Yet, I clearly listed all meds on my registration form. BTW: My weekly heparin treatments and the elmiron pills and elavil pills and the IC diet are working!!! It's been almost two weeks since diagnosis and I am feeling SUPER! I'm off to Albertsons; they have a sale on Fiji Water- 7+ ph. I'm going to stock up. I love Icelandic Glacial Water - 8+ ph too. If the money is right, I may splurge on two bottles. Smiles, laughter and prayers are my healing tools.
    Have a restful weekend guys.

I can relate to that. When I had my last allergy test, the doctor said he had never seen someone so allergic, and he called the other doctors in the practice to come look! I was having one of those prick tests on my back, and my whole back was covered in hives! I just have to laugh about it now, my father always tells me that I'm allergic to air.
    Medications and Supplements:

    Pyridium
    D-Mannose powder
    Cranmax

The results from the allergy testing on my blood is only partially complete. I had to go back to the lab (6:30 am today) to give four more vials of blood. Yikes. But, the preliminary results are really strange... Negative reulsts for foods that I clearly know make me swell, wheeze and cough. Plus, IC friendly foods I was currently enjoying were listed as allergens. What gives? Well, on the good news front, my IC rescue treatments are going really well. That is indeed a blessing. I hope that everyone has a pain free, restful weekend.

I'm glad you got some answers from the allergist. Allergies are a funny thing. Years ago I was not allergic to molds, but recently had allergy testing again, and found out that I am severely allergy to most molds. I guess they can develop over the years. I'm stumped. Also, when I was tested, three things I'm severely allergic to came up as negative. When I told the doctor he told me to come back another day and he did a different allergy testing with a shot instead of the pric. Well, low and behold, I had the severe reactions to the things I told him about. So sometimes the pric tests don't give an accurate result. If you know you are allergic to something and it's negative, ask the doctor to do further testing to be sure.

I can't help but think IC and allergies are related somehow. Or maybe allergies are just another trigger...

I'm wondering if the vials of blood will give better results. I didn't know about that type of testing. I'd prefer that because of my shaky results also. Coincidentally, I have an appointment with an allergist tomorrow morning. The allergist I saw recently is well over the age of retirement and actually was shaking when he gave me the testing. (he has some illness that makes him shake) My primary doc told me to see another allergist. I'm curious about what will happen now.

So glad to hear the rescue treatments are going well!
