I just had another hydro on Friday afternoon. (and yes the frequency is always a problem for me for the first few days, along with the pain. I work full time and for the most part I can sit at my desk with my heating pad on me for most of the day. IC is not a "life sentence" Hang in there.

First of all I'm sorry you are going through this. IC is definitely life changing but it is possible to have a life. For me I had to re-define "normal".

Anytime I have had a hydro it takes a few days for everything to calm down from the procedure. The pyridium or over the counter Cystex will really help with the irritation and pain from the procedure itself. In time you may find that the hydro is a good treatment for you. It helps many people keep their symptoms in check.

The Vesicare can certainly help with spasms and urgency/frequency due to spasming but watch out for retention. Make sure you are still going regularly and emptying well. I know that can be hard to tell but if you are drinking a lot but only pee every couple of hours and only an ounce then you probably aren't emptying. You don't want to develop an infection from retention! It's doable but you just have to be aware of your body.

I agree to give the diet more time or at least stay away from the foods on the highest risk list. I am not particularly diet sensitive but I have learned my trigger foods/drinks and stay away from those. It just takes time. I was diagnosed 9 years ago and have tried almost everything there is to try short of having my bladder removed. It you have any questions about treatments, meds, or tests I probably have done it and don't mind talking to you about it.

I do have the interstim but I don't recommend it until you have tried everything else. It helps with the frequency and for me some kinds of my bladder pain. Interstim is not for pain control and doesn't help most people with their pain.

Keep in mind that with these forums you will typically read more from those who are going through difficult times or having trouble getting symptoms under control. The people who are feeling good are out and about and not on the computer. Reading the success stories is good but resist the urge to try every med or treatment that people post has helped them. In the beginning for me I would keep a list of things to try so when I read about something that helped someone else I could put it on the list, research it and talk to my doc about. Remember it takes sometimes months for meds to help if they are going to and same thing with treatments. Also combining different things can help too. It's all trial and error and patience.

You have come to the right place. The ladies (and men) on here are so supportive and have more knowledge than a lot of medical professionals. When I was first diagnosed my doc told me that for the vast majority of people IC is not a progressive disease. It can progress in the first 5 years of symptoms but not usually after that. It is a disease process of flare ups and remissions that can be short or long and some flare ups worse than others. That has certainly proven to be true for me. I don't know if others have been told that and I do know of people who have seemed to get progressively worse over time but that can have to do with other disease processes going on in the body. So who knows?!

Hang in there! Message me anytime if you have questions about any meds or treatments. Sorry this is so long! I hope it helps you some!!

    Hang in there

Just after my hydro my frequency went through the roof. For me it took about 5 days for me to feel like it was getting better and about two weeks to get close to where I was before. Now my symptom are a little different then yours. I never truly had pain. more of a discomfort. Coke is the main thing that will cause pain everytime.
Give the VESIcare a try. I have been on it for about a year and a half and it does help. It took about a week or two before I could see a difference. Only side effect for me was the dry mouth. That took some getting use to. It never made me sleepy.
chill out for a bit on surfing the net for info. It will drive you crazy, trust me.
Give the diet more time. It sucks to give up so much but once done and enough time goes by you will see an improvement. Then one at a time try out things to see what it does. i am still learning what I have to stay away from. Heck, I just found out I can still do pizza if I order light sause and get the kind with real hand toused crust. YEAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
My story is still a work in progress but things are getting better and now I know it's not the end of the world. Somethings suck but I am learning there are nessesary evils with all this. Hang in there, your not alone.

New to Forum. Just got out of surgery. Strange first message

Hi and thanks for the help. I was typing from my iphone and it likes to make up words. I now have frequency, which I dreaded. I would only like to deal with one symptom not all three.

I am leery of the vesicare for spasms. I took an ultracet earlier and it made me drowsy.

I feel like IC is a death sentence. I am a cancer survivor and came out of that with no problems. I've never had chronic pain in my entire life. I have seen all of the horror stories on this board. I have been reading this board now for a month and frankly, a I'm a bit obsessed. I go to success stories every day.

I just read Jill's story with Interstim. My uro is the number 1 doctor in Texas who implants those things but she seems very optimistic and ready to try all kinds of things to get me back to normal.

I've followed the IC diet for the last month thinking that would get me some relief and it really didn't help. I knocked back two glasses of red wine last Sunday just to test the waters. I actually felt better. I'm a coffee drinker and I'm not sure if coffee flares the IC or not.

I sure would like to hear more successes. I know folks who feel better just don't post.

    Melissa

My first couple of days were hard but by the third day I was feeling much better. I will prob. take a couple days to go back to the way it was... I knowit can be frustrating. I would say just take meds and try to relax with a bath or something like that.

What do you do after hydro w/instilation?

    Hi,
Just got diagnosed with ic via hydro
This morning. My symptoms were just pain, no frequency.
I feel this morning's procedure is making the frequency an issue.
Dr did a cocktail and said I might feel better in three
Days. Took a pyridium and ultracett.
Have vesicle but am afraid to take it.
    Any advice appreciated.
