  • Nurse thought I was an idiot!!!

So, I had my first baby dr appointment Tuesday!!! :woohoo: We aren't pregnant yet, but my Uro wanted me to meet with her to see how long I needed to wait to start trying with all the meds I'm on.
So, we're sitting in the room and the nurse says something about us being there for fertility issues, which I guessed was kinda right, so I didn't say anything. But then she pokes her head back in and says "you're not still on the Ortho-Novem Birth Control are you?" and I said "yes". And she says "How long have you been on that?" so I told her about 10yrs and she says "and how long have you been trying to get pregnant? " The way she said it she must have thought that I was an idiot trying to get pregnant on the pill for the past 10yrs!!!!!!
I explained it to her that yes, I know that BC keeps you from getting pregnant that I was waiting to see this dr about going off of it. I'll bet that for a minute there she felt like she'd just cured me!!!!! "I know this chick's problem, she can't get pregnant because she's still on the pill!!!!"
Dr. gave us the go ahead!!!!! Told me to try Folic Acid and see if it makes me flare or not. Anyone else tolerate it? If so, how much? Thanks!!!!!!!

That is hysterical! I almost think I would've had to let her believe she cured me, just so she'd have a fantastic story to tell for the rest of her life.

OMG Leah!!! That was just the laugh I needed for the day!! I was literally laughing out loud.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

That is a story you could tell you kid when he/she gets older! I feel bad about it being funny at your expense, but I hope you are laughing too. The nurse needs to get a brain transplant.

You should have told her you thought it was a fertility treatment... boy, people just don't think things through sometimes.

I called an IT helpline once to find out what the error code on my computer's monitor meant, and the guy on the helpdesk said, "Ma'am, is your computer plugged in?" Uh, yeah, that's how I'm able to see this message on my screen... same mentality as your nurse. Assume everyone is an idiot.
Je vous souhaite de la joie, de la bonne santée, et tout ce qu'il y a de bon dans la vie.
Wishing you happiness and good health, and all the best out of life.

There was a gynecologist at the hospital where I worked who said he always tells his patients at their six week post-op check that they can now have intercourse --- because of another gyn who told a patient immediately after surgery to not have sex --- and two years later this same patient reported at her check-up that her husband really doesn't like the no sex routine!

Yup! There are ditzel-brains out there! More than we know......
