  • IC and Pregnancy

I am 34 years old and have IC and endometriosis (I'm taking Desogen continuously for the endo and Elmiron, Atarax and Hydroxyzine for the IC).

I am finally in a serious relationship where pregnancy within the next couple of years is possible (hooray! - that biological clock is getting so loud! ;-). I'm wondering though - is pregnancy difficult with IC and endometriosis? There are times when the urgency/frequency is so intense I'm wondering if I would survive with a baby sitting on my bladder. And what about the meds - are there any side affects I should consider before becoming pregnant?

Hi and Welcome to the ICN. I have IC and I have a close friend who has IC and endo. I actually just got home from visiting her and her new baby! She had some difficulty getting pregnant and some problems in the beginning of the pregnancy. But she and new baby girl are doing very well.
Most likely your doctor will take you off of most meds before pregnancy. I know they recommend stopping Elmiron, but I'm not sure about the other meds that you are on.
Although i can't give you alot of first hand advice. I just wanted to let you know it's possible to have a successful pregnancy with IC and endo. I wish you all the best in your relationship and hope that you can consider pregnancy within the next couple of years.
    take care,
    Melanie

      Hi Meil!

I am keeping a weekly pregnancy journal if you'd like to check it out.

My IC symptoms have been good and bad so far but I have remained med-free and it hasn't been too much to manage. I've also heard that pregnancy can help endo.

I wish you lots of luck and we're always here for you!

Baby Kaitlyn was born on 07/08/01 after a successful pregnancy with IC!
