Hi
I'm sorry to hear your bad news, but it is a questions I have been dealing with in. We have made the decision to have a baby, are worried about the Elmiron, I have only been on it 5 weeks, and I have some relief. I've worried about things like this. I hope we both have better luck.

Dear Sarah,

I am really happy to hear that Elmiron has been helping you, but am very sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I'm not sure your OBGYN will be able to tell you about pregnancy and Elmiron because there have been no extensive formal studies regarding this topic due to the huge medical ethics issue! I was wondering about this too, because I have been on Elmiron for many years. I started when I was about 21 or 22, and I was concerned about having kids in the future. My urologist told me there haven't been any studies specifically done on this subject, but that he didn't think it would be a problem. I hope to start a family in the next couple of years (I'm getting married this summer), so we'll see then!

Take care,
Alexa

Hi Sarah,

Even when women are trying to conceive in their early twenties, most practitioners don't get concerned before the 12 month point. The best way to tell at home that you're ovulating is to take a basel body temperature every day for a full cycle. If you have a surge (increase in BBT of about one degree) mid-cycle, you're almost certainly ovulating. Ovulation predictor kits work well for some people, but you often need to test midday, during the work day for many women.

Elmiron is a category B drug which means that it has so far tested safe on fetal development.

Good luck. Conceiving can be a long and frustrating process.

Hi Sarah,
Congrats on Elmiron working for you. That's wonderful! I'm so sorry, though, about your miscarriage. Gentle hugs to you.

I'm not aware of any research that has been conducted into Elmiron's impact on fertility or the development of a fetus. I'm glad you have an appointment with your ob/gyn. Hopefully she/he will have some insight.

Best wishes,
Melanie J.

started a topic Elmiron

Elmiron

Hello everyone-

First the good news-I started Elmiron in June and I feel almost completely IC free!

Now, the (possibly) bad news, is that last February I got pregnant (first try) but then miscarried. I then started on Elmiron (in June) and decided to not try to conceive until I had given it a chance. It worked so my hubby and I started trying again to conceive. Its been almost six months and no luck.

The only difference between then and now is the Elmiron. I have not heard that it affects fertility but I am wondering.

The most likely culprit I feel is my age though-I just turned 39. I am still ovulating-as far as I can tell.

I am going to the Ob/Gyn this week to see what the next step is, but just wondered if anybody had any input.

Thanks,
Sarah
