Hi. I will be tying for a baby in January so I need to know if pregnancy makes ic worse? Does it make it worse in the long run or does it make it worse just while your pregnant? I'm scared to know but I thank anyone who answers.

Your IC may go into remission, as some ICers' pregnancies do. You might want to try reading ICNLesa's pregnancy journal. It's beautifully written about her experience with pregnancy and IC.
Mommy to 2 crazy, wonderful kids and wife to the most amazing man in the world!
I've had two pregnancies with IC and went into remission with both of them after the first 4 months and stayed in remission for several months after. I know everybody is different but my experience was positive. During the first few months I had heparin/lydocaine installations weekly which really helped me get through those months and then I felt pretty good.

I was pregnant with my second daughter and had a horrible time with ic. My uro at the time, couldnt do the hydro, but did the cystoscopy, and saw the ic in my bladder, then after adrianna was borned, i had the hydro. ive had two in three years. My experience was bad, but every one is different im glad that you had a positive expeirecne with ic remission durning the pregnancy. It makes it sooo much easier to enjoy! I did enjoy being pregnant anyway, but the ic was painful.

Hi there. My IC was pretty decent to me while pregnant. I visited the uro twice with bad flares. They were actually uti's. So with antibiotics that was controlled.
It also went into remission for 6 months postpartum. That was nice.....Now I'm back on Elmiron and have been flaring lately. I think it's from stress.
But the IC isn't better or really any worse.
Take care and you'll be fine. Those little ones are just too much fun. I'd do it again.....
Tons of support,
Jaime

Thank you. It's just that I seem to have the pain at least 2-3 times a day 4-5 days a week on average. Weeks may vary a bit as you all know. My pain also averages a mild-medium. So, it's obviously livable but very annoying and bothersome. I do get it to the point of being restricted to a sitting position and/or the toilet for pain relief. Yes, I sit on the toilet for the pain! It seems to help for some reason. Now, for the more the scary part (because we are talking preg. here) I almost always have that urgency/frequency thing going on. I've learned to ignore it for the most part it's going to be worse if i get pg. ANyway, I hope and pray it goes well. I had one kid before and I don't remember if I had the pain and stuff then. It was 7 years ago. I've had ic symptoms my whole life but remember it being a little better through a lot of my teen life for some reason. (Oh, I had my daughter at 18 btw). Well, anyway, thanks. Take care.

There are pain meds you are allowed to take after the first trimester. I know when i found out I was pregnant I was totally scared I felt I had lost control of my body because then I felt I couldn't take absolutely anything. But, after a good long talk with my OB doc she gave me options for pain control one was pyridium if it works for you you can take it after first trimester. I trusted my doc because she researched everything.
I didn't have to use it all the time but just knowing I could helped me feel more in control.
