  • labor and delivery/vaginal vs.c-section

I am about to have my first baby and I have had IC for the past 3 years. I have been able to manage it throughout my pregnancy. I have been lucky and didn't have that many fler-ups. My dilema is the labor itself. I have heard some horror stories about the trauma it causes to the bladder and uretha. Then again I have heard about so many women going into remission after having their babies. What would be a safer alternative for me given the fact that I already have IC. My doctor doesn't seem to have an opinion on it. I trully don't think he knows enough about IC. I can't believe I am even having this baby. I thought that I will never be able to become pregnant because of my spastic pelvic floor muscles. This baby is my true miracle and I feel very blessed. I have many other health problems besides IC. I can't wait for my Easter chick to hatch. I am due on the 8th of April. Happy Easter to all of you ladies. This will be my best Easter ever. Let me know if you can share your birth experiences with me if you have had IC at the time of pregnancy.

I have the spastic pelvic floor as well. I thought for a long time that I wanted a C-section when I was pregnant. (I have never had a child) But now that I look at it, I think having it natural could help losen up those muscles a little. Just an educated guess here. Also you heal quicker from vaginal birth, and lots of hospitals have surgeons suture up tears and birth wounds, so the damage is minimal. You would also be able to see your baby quicker and not have to get major surgery. Hope this helps, this is just an opinion, like I said I have never had a child and im no doctor!

As far as I know I did not have IC when I had my son 2 1/2 years ago. Having said that, I had a c-section and I would never recommend that someone have one when they don't need it. It is major surgery and it really really hurts. I was sore for a good couple of weeks after I had Griffin and it's really hard to take care of a baby when you are that sore. Unless your uro gives you a good reason why a c-section would be much better for your ic than a vaginal birth I would recommend trying to do it vaginally. I wish I could have but seeing Griffin was 9lbs 7 oz when he was born he just refused to fit through my pelvis. Hope this helps from someone who has had a c-section.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

Well I am a person that is all for C-section's!!! I was not DX with the IC until recently but I have had 3 c-sections. My first was in 96. Now I can tell u that I had UTI issues before that and had alot of pee tests done and was told that there was nothing wrong. So i think I have had IC for many years and just not really known. Anyways.....my c-sections were a breeze. I had 18 hrs of labor with my 1st son and he was just to big for me 8lbs 15oz

First off yes it does hurt due to being "surgery" but once u have that bundle in ur arms ur pain is the last thing u truly will think about. Ok that was the last thing I thought about. Everyone is different

If u have a c-section remember these tricks ok. First ask ur doc if u will have a "gridle" Put on u after the c-section. If not ask for one they HELP u so much it is un real.

Second take a pilliow from home or 2 and use the pilliow to hold the baby on ur tummy. Sit up in bed put pilliow on tummy and then have someone hand u ur baby. It helps. Also us the pillow when going hm. To help with the bumps....on ur tummy

Third when u can finally get out of bed which should be the very next day after u have ur baby.......STAND UP AS STRAIGHT AS U CAN AND TAKE THE DEEPEST BREATH THAT U CAN. Keep doing this each time u get up.

My last c-section was 6 almost 7 months ago so trust me when I saw it will be ok. And if u are able to have ur baby the natural way then that is how it is supposed to be.

Now during ur c-section u shouldn't be able to feel any pain just pressure. When they pull the baby out it feels like a sack of potatoes is being lifted off ur tummy.

Just remember to enjoy ur new lil life that u have because it goes so fast.

If u don't take any other advise please remember this 1 thing........U R that child's mother and if ur gut is telling u something is wrong TRUST IT.

        Take care and Congrats
Live your life to YOUR best, and Love to YOUR best!!!

I just had my baby 3 1/2 months ago and I had to have an emergency c-section. If I had my choice I would have had a vaginal birth, my other 2 children were born natural and the pain is a lot less then a c-section. But it came down to the health of my child so I had to have it done. Having a c-section didn't cause my IC to get worse in fact it actually went into remission for about a month afterwards. I was a little scared since they keep your catheter in and since my IC is mainly urethra pain and pressure I thought it would just make it worse but it didn't. Good luck
