  • what do u think?

Hey guys, please tell me what you think.

I've been TTC for only two months. I should get my period in four more days---this coming Sunday, May 27th.

About three days ago my skin got super oily. In January I just finished a 6 month course of Accutane which destroys oil glands. Since the Accutane, I have had perfect skin. And I mean PERFECT. Not one zit at all!!

SO yesterday I woke up with tiny zits on my nose, cheeks, and forehead. They are very small and remind me of the zits you see on newborn babies sometimes.

Have any of you gotten really oily skin as a sign of pregnancy?

And it's weird---I normally have fragile peeling fingernails but about three days ago they started getting hard and growing nicely.

What do you guys think? Does pregnancy cause this so soon?? I mean, if I am pregnant it would only be about one week after implantation......

    Current Rx Meds:
    Atarax, Ditropan, Elmiron
Prior to pregnancy: The above 3 meds PLUS Neurontin, Topamax, Loratadine, continuous OrthoCyclen, Lidocaine Patches PRN, Temazepam PRN, & Vicodin PRN
    Hooray for babies!
Misc. lifesavers: Hot baths, ThermaCare Heat Wraps, Ice Packs. The IC Diet has changed my life.
    Didn't work for me:
Detrol LA, Amitryptiline, Morphine, Percocet, TENS unit, Interferential Pain Stimulator Unit, Hypogastric Plexus Nerve Block
    IC (Mod-Severe) since 1996

UPDATE: 5/21/08 Pregnancy and breastfeeding afterwards have alleviated my IC symptoms more than anything, EVER. Most days are 100% pain free & I now have normal frequency (as long as I take these 3 meds).

It's possible. But it could just be your body going back to "normal" as various meds leave your system. It took me a year and a half (I kid you not) after stopping BCP for my cycles to become semi-regular. So even if the med is "out of your system" it doesn't mean your system has totally re-set yet.

Are you temping/charting? If you are, and your period doesn't arrive on time and your temps are still high... by all means, take a test! I'd proably try one of the "early response" types since the hCg levels can be low-ish even at the time of a missed period.

My first clue that I was pregnant was at 3 days post ovulation (dpo)- my Prevacid quit working a full 24 hours. I needed a bunch of Tums for breakthrough hearburn. I took my first test at 10dpo and got a faint positive (not that I recommend making yourself crazy THAT early in the game. I'm a little nuts). It's possible that you could have symptoms this early...

Just be careful. It could be random body stuff too.
Either way you should know in a few days. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Good luck!!!
    Aly

Oh, I forgot to add, my skin did get VERY wonky, and is still (I'm 13+ weeks along now). I've had funky acne and some cold sore breakouts on my chin. Fun!

Personally I didn't have these symptoms but your body does some strange things while pregnant so it is possible. I remember that while we were TTC I noticed before my period that my breasts would get sore. The month that I found out I was pregnant, I said to hubby before I had my missed period that my breasts weren't sore at all so I must not be pregnant. Didn't get a period and took the test and low and behold I was pregnant. I couple of days later my breasts got sore as all get out.

I hope you are pregnant and as Aly said if you are you will know pretty soon. If not keep on trying it will happen.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

        thanks guys

        Thanks Aly & Christine,

I feel like a little kid waiting for Santa Claus.....

Christine that's funny what you said about sore boobs. Mine have not been sore at all and normally they start getting sore several days before I start. I was wondering about that!

And Aly that's funny you say that about your Prevacid. My guess is that drugs are metabolized faster when you're pregnant.....I've noticed that my ditropan hasn't been working quite as well so I'm taking it more frequently.

Or maybe this is all just my wishful imagination.

Some people have a "frequency" issue in the first trimester but with all of our bladder problems---would we even be able to tell a difference?? ha ha ha.

I have all these friends with kids and when they were pregnant they would complain about getting up 3-4 times a night during their last trimester. I couldn't help but think, "welcome to my world." Don't worry, I didn't say it, lol. And getting up 3-4 times a night would be classified as a GREAT night for me.

        Thanks guys!!

LOL LeeAnn, that's funny that you mention the peeing. I didn't have IC or I sure as heck didn't know I had it when I was pregnant. I have always peed alot. I did go alot in my first trimester right in the beginning and someone at work made fun of me and said that was crazy. I checked and because your uterus is growing you do pee more during those first few months.

My cousin just had a baby a month ago(reminds me I have to call her and see how he is doing, sooo cute from the pictures I've seen!) and when she came to visit me when she was about 7 1/2 months pregnant I got up more during the night to pee than she did!!! (because she was pregnant, she slept in my bed with me and hubby slept on the couch)

Keep us posted about these odd little symptoms, hehe

I can tell that my frequency is up. Not drastically, but instead of getting up every 1 or 2 times a night (after 2 years of IC treatment) to suddenly back to 3-5. I can tell a little bit during the day as well, though not as much.

Also, I have definitely NOT gone into anything I would call a remission. I actually have to be more careful about my diet - I got away with a lot more pre-pregnancy. I'm doing OK, and things are stable, but I'm still on a lot of my meds too. So watch for that.

it will get better once you get out of the first trimester! The first 16 weeks of my pregnancy were total HELL to say the least, and my IC was at it's worse, but once the rapid growth stopped, and the morning sickness went away i was doing much better....now if i could only bend over and put my shoes on!

              Meds i'm currently taking:

              Meds that did not help:
              Detrol LA
              Lexapro (caused urgency)
Amatryptaline 10mg once a day (helped IC but made me feel like CRAP)
