  • Had my c-section on Jan 5th! Total IC remission!

    Hi All!

I wanted to let you know that after 9 painful months of pregnancy, where my IC was in HORRIBLE condition the whole time, I had had my baby boy via c-section on Jan 5th. The C-section went just fine. My baby was breech, but even if he hadn't been, my OB thought it would be best to deliver that way due to the severity of my IC.

After having the c-section, I had a catheter in for 24 hours. They didn't put it in until I was numb though, which was great. I didn't even feel it once it was in (even after the pain meds wore off). It was actually quite nice not having to get up and pee all the time. Once they pulled it out though, I started to have some pain. I was on Percocet though for the c section, and that kept the urethra pain under control too. A couple days later, my urethra pain got bad, and I found out I had a UTI. So, they put me on Macrobid and it got much better. My milk came in about 5 days after the c-section, and low and behold, my HORRIBLE IC went into COMPLETE remission. I wasn't breast feeding or pumping for the first 9 days my milk came in, and it was still in remission. Just the fact that the milk hadn't dried completely up kept me in remission. So, on that 9th day, I decided that I couldn't let this go. I'm on too many meds to actually breast feed. So, I decided to try pumping. I now pump once a day, and have managed to keep myself in remission! It is great! I wish that doctors could figure out why these things happen, and come up with a way to treat IC. I went from horrible urethral pain, terrible bladders spasms, being VERY diet sensitive to now drinking coffee, eating tomato sauce, etc.. and I have NO pain. I am taking Elmiron during this remission to start building it up in my system for when the time comes that I am no longer in remission. Elmiron takes months to work. So, I figure that I might as well get a head start on it!

Anyway, for anyone worried about how things will go after the delivery, I just wanted to share my positive experience. I did not go into remission during the pregnancy. In fact, my IC was the worst it has ever been, BUT I am in remission now and loving every minute of it. That should give you girls hope!!

My baby is doing wonderfully. He was born at 39 weeks and weighed 7 lbs 8.5 oz. Hope all of your pregnancies are going well. If you have any questions, let me know. Feel free to respond or send me a PM.

P.S. For anyone wondering, I had to take Pyridium that last month at least two - four times a week. My baby turned out fine and was not stained orange! (Someone posted that a long time ago.... their OB said it could stain the baby orange. My high risk OB and regular OB said there had been no reported cases of that.) I actually took pyridium the night before the c section, and everything went fine.

Good luck to all of you!
    ~Valery~

      new baby

      Congratulations!

It sounds like you got two blessings at the same time. Your wonderful new little boy, and remission.

That's so interesting about the breast milk and the remissoin. I wish someone would study that, there might be a clue for a cure in there somewhere.

      Stay well and have fun!

Congrats on your new baby! How exciting for you!

As far as the breast milk, I believe I have seen stuff about hormones and IC. So maybe that's where you are. Hope so! If that's the case would pump forever! Ah, to be pain free if only for a day, a week, a month. And nice that you are not suffering so you can have that quality time with your new babe. Enjoy every minute! Jill, wife of Bob

              Congratulations!!!

I'm SO happy for you!! Babies are SUCH a blessing and you got a DOUBLE blessing in that your IC is in remission!! It doesn't get any better!! My "baby-having days" are behind me now, but I remember when my two were so tiny!! My mom and my mil kept telling me that I should put them down for a while but I said NO!! There will come a day (and it came sooner than I wanted) when they won't want you to hold them all the time! So by God, I was going to hold them and love on them as much as I could for as long as I could. And, if I DO say so myself, they've turned out great. 19 and 21 and I couldn't ask for sweeter, nicer kids!! Again I'm so happy for you and give him a little snuggle from me!!!

Wow, that is so interesting and I've read that before. I wish they could figure out what exactly in your hormones has changed to put you in remission. It really makes you think its totally hormone related right?

                          Thanks!!

Thank you so much for posting!! I am figuring that if I get pregnant... I will be the type to get much worse since birth control made me a lot worse. Hopefully it'll go away if I can breastfeed!

                          Congrats on your little one!
