Here is what I know: I'm 37 weeks and on and off throughout this pregnancy I've had issues with not getting relief when I pee. I know I'm retaining anywhere from 50 to 70cc. What's causing this? I don't know. Uro says I'm having bladder spasms which is causing it and my OB thinks the way this baby is implanted. I'm just so sick and tired of sitting down to pee and literally it's just dribbles out and then it stops giving me no satisfaction of an empty bladder! I've never had this issue before and my 1st pregnancy was nothing like this. Please, please someone out there tell me you went thru this and it got better after delivery?

37 weeks and bladder spasms
Symptoms: urgency, frequency, difficulty urinating, weak and hesitant stream.
Suffered with IC since 2000 with mainly frequency, officially diagnosed in 2008. Started elmiron once diagnosed until remission for a blissful 5 years.
I've always considered my IC mild and manageable until remission ended on 12/26/12. Symptoms returned while 10 weeks pregnant with spasms that caused difficulty emptying bladder and urgency. Had ok days and BAD days entire pregnancy. My symptoms seem to be under control as long as I take my meds everyday.
Current meds:
Elmiron: 400mg
Amitriptyline 45 mg
Flomax .4 mg
Quasnese
Valium suppositories ( as needed)
Glucosamine supplementTags: None

I also want to add I know how to self cath if need be as a result of these symptoms that first started in the 1st trimester. I've tried all the tricks too, leaning forward, warm baths etc. nothing much works. I can find nothing on the net regarding this issue with other pregnant women. Some women complain of this with tilted uterus but I have no clue if I have one. I wonder if I have a prolapsed bladder too! I guess I'm refusing to accept its my IC acting up as I'm afraid it won't get better after I deliver. My IC has never been like this before, just frequency and at times urgency but that's it.Symptoms: urgency, frequency, difficulty urinating, weak and hesitant stream.

Once the weight of your little one is resting in your arms instead of on your bladder you should feel better. My children were born before I developed IC, but I still remember a multitude of bathroom trips before they were born.
I hope you feel better quickly --- and please let us know when your baby arrives.
Sending warm hugs,

Thank you Donna. I do remember going a lot with my first but nothing this severe. That is why I'm so scared. I'm also scared something could be wrong with my baby since I've been taking my meds all along. I'm just worrying about everything right now.Symptoms: urgency, frequency, difficulty urinating, weak and hesitant stream.

I have to post this. I read somewhere that inhaling peppermint oil helps with retention. I thought there is no way something that simple would work. Well I tried it today having a really bad day and it worked!! At least I think it did. All I know is for the first time in three days I felt like I could empty. I still feel pressure but I assume its baby now. Amazing. I guess the scent helped relax those muscles. I will definitely have the oil packed in my hospital bag!Symptoms: urgency, frequency, difficulty urinating, weak and hesitant stream.
