Hey, I don't know if IC is my problem, i'm having a cystoscopy tomorrow so maybe that will show me.

I started with my symptoms 6 months before i became pregnant, went to see a urologist who told me that nothing could be done until after i had given birth. I managed throughout my pregnancy with no medical intervention other than having urine tested once a month to check for infection as i couldn't tell if i had one or not with the symptoms i had. In fact some of my symptoms got better whilst in the 3rd trimester. I had no particular birth plan as i found out at about 30 weeks that i was strep b positive so i needed iv antibiotics during labour. I went into labour naturally and received antibiotics but due to my labour being so long i ended up having an emergency c section. Due to the spinal block, i had a catheter and that was kept in for 24 hours, i felt no pain with this. After my catheter was removed, i found that all my symptoms had gone, i don't know why or if the catheter had anything to do with it but i had 4 months of having a normal bladder again. Unfortunately my symptoms returned a couple of months ago and now i'm back to getting investigated once more.

what are your symptoms like?

I just wanted to let you know that i've been through something similar and there is hope!

Thank you so much for responding. I really hope they can figure out what's wrong for you and help you get back to normal. My symptoms started at about 8 weeks pregnant. I started going to the bathroom alot and not feeling like I had completely emptied. Then after a few weeks of that it started to burn after I would urinate and sometimes that would last all day. At about 18 weeks I had a horrible reaction (may have been a yeast infection) due to taking augmentin bc one of the drs I had seen thought I had a uti when I really didn't... Then at about 20 weeks I was hospitalized for a true uti and ever since then I have alot of pain in my abdomen area, possibly bladder, and all the frequency, urgency, And burning. Baby is also super low bc that's the only place I feel her so that's not helping my situation. I'm constantly sitting on an ice pack all day or laying in a warm tub to get me through the day... I'm completely miserable and depressed and I just don't know what else to do

your symptoms sound very much like what i had and i'm feeling now.

It could be that maybe the baby is very low and putting extra pressure on your bladder, i know during my 2nd trimester when my baby moved above my pelvis then a lot of the pressure reduced, it came back near the end of pregnancy but generally it does when the baby starts to engage.

I have also found recently that i am suffering a slight prolapse, i'm pretty sure i had this before pregnancy too so i'm not sure if this is the cause of my symptoms or maybe it just adds to them. You probably don't have anything like this but you could always get checked out. Sometimes the pelvic floor muscles can get very tensed especially when in pain as you automatically tense them without even realising. Also when you're pregnant, you have the extra pressure from baby so it can make them feel very sore. There are pelvic floor therapists that specialise in things like posture and exercise during pregnancy. Everyone gets told to do kegals to tighten the muscles but sometimes women have muscles that are too tight and this might cause more pain. Maybe a womens health physiotherapist could assess you and let you know what your pelvic floor is like? Its safe during pregnancy and they might be able to do massage or teach you to do exercises that would help you.

You might have things like antenatal physio anyway but i'm from the UK and its not generally routine during pregnancy here unless we are referred by a doctor or pay privately for it. I imagine things would be different in the US?

I'm not saying that you may or may not need anything like this, just a thought really, i know that doctors are very reluctant to try anything while you're pregnant and with good reason but even little things that you don't think will help could make a big difference.

I actually had my first appointment yesterday with a PT that specializes in pelvic floor therapy. I'm going twice a week and hoping it helps relieve some of my symptoms so I can get through these next 3 months! Have you done therapy? If so, has it helped any?

I haven't tried it yet, i found out about it late in my pregnancy and never got round to trying before my baby was due. I had planned to go after giving birth but when my symptoms disappeared i didn't follow it up.

Depending on what happens after my cystoscopy tomorrow, i'm deffo going to look back into going for some physio as i think it could really help especially with my prolapse.

Did your therapist assess you or say what your pelvic floor was like?

She did asses me and said that some of my muscles seemed tense although the external bio feedback said they looked ok. I'm going tomorrow to do the internal bio feedback to compare with the external. She said then she will know more. Something is definitely going on bc I'm real tense when I urinate :/ like its stop and go stop and go.
May I ask what your symptoms were like when you were pregnant?

My cysto went ok, my urologist found bladder inflammation but didn't mention IC so i'm not really sure :-/ He says that hopefully the stretch will help things and i need to go back in 6 weeks and take it from there.

I can't really tell a difference yet as i'm still feeling quite sore from it but i don't feel any worse than before so thats always a good thing xx

Oh and during my pregnancy, the burning pain disappeared and i just had the frequency, however it was hard to tell because pregnancy does make you need to go more but mine did seem worse than normal as often when i went i would never feel empty after, i would try go again but there was no more to come out, i just had the pressure sensation that i needed to go.

During my cysto, my urologist also checked my pelvic floor as i was told by my gp that i had a prolapse, however my urologist said i don't have a prolapse! I'm really confused now lol.

I think once things have settled down, i'm going to go for some Pelvic floor therapy and see what is going on as things deffo don't seem right.

And which burning did you have? I always see people takin about burning in the bladder but the only burning I have sometimes is"down there", ya know? Is that how yours was when it burned?

Yeah I always hear about burning in the bladder but I don't think I get this, mine feels like my urethra burns rather than my bladder :-/ is this what you get?

Yes, that's how I would describe it, but I also find it get it inside my vagina sometimes. When that happens I have to sit on an icepack to releive it. I just don't know if maybe some of the prenancy hormones are making it worse

Yeah I get that too! I think hormones must be related cos things got better for me whilst I was pregnant then completely disappeared after birth and then came back a few months after starting birth control again! I'm convinced it's all related..

I agree with you! I'm praying once my hormones go back to normal after I have the baby that I will feel exactly like I felt pre-pregnancy! I had NO symptoms of this before. It's just so bizarre. Oh, and I've been to PT for my pelvic floor a few times already and I do believe it is helping some. She is also teaching me ways to relax my muscles in my pelvic floor and thats helping too! I hope you get some help from it too!
