  • Is anyone currently pregnant?

Hi all. I'm new to this forum. I've been looking for a place to discuss pregnancy and IC but this forum seems to have been a bit quiet lately so I'm not sure if anyone is around.

I was wondering if anyone is currently pregnant and, if so, how they are going?

In particular, has anyone found any effective pain relief/management tools for pregnancy?

I am 7 weeks pregnant (first pregnancy) and already struggling quite a bit. Before this, I didn't really have my IC under control but was helped a bit by medication (endep to sleep, endone for pain relief, betmiga to relax the bladder). I've cut out all medications for the pregnancy and am finding that the symptoms are quite bad already - whether that's because I'm no longer on any medication or whether that's due to the pregnancy I'm not sure. The frequency is pretty bad (every half hour) and the pain is worse than I've ever experienced.

Anyway, just hoping there's someone else out there. I'm feeling pretty anxious about what to expect over the next few months.

Flexeril is category B and once you are in the second trimester many docs will let yiu take some Norco. I am not pregnant but my youngest is 4 months. I found unisom helped with sleep.

I suggest you talk with your OB doctor about medications that are safe during pregnancy. Some ICers find that as pregnancy progresses they feel better --- I hope you'll be in that group.

My children were born before my IC, but we do have members who have gone through pregnancy with IC. The commonality is that when they are able to hold their little ones in their arms, they feel it was worth it.

Sending welcoming hugs. I'm glad you found us.

Hello Trish86! I am currently 11 weeks with my third and the pain is horrible. I had my IC under control with meds and unexpectedly got pregnant. My ob made me go off all my meds, and I have been roughing it out. I told him today it was horrible. He suggested I talk with my urogynocologist and see what I can do. I had no issues with my second, but wasn't officially diagnosed with IC until after her birth.

        How are you holding up?

I have to agree with the suggestion that you see your urogynocologist about some help. I hope you are able to come up with some options to help you through this pregnancy --- that's a long time to tough it out.

            Re: Is anyone currently pregnant?

Hi I know this post is now a few months old however I am nearly 7 weeks pregnant and my IC has never been so bad before. I am in agony about 5 times a day and the pain last 10 mins at a time.
It’s on the left side and radiates down my left leg, the doctor said he can’t see anything to worry about but I am concerned because everything online suggests the pain should get better with pregnancy.
            How are you now?

I am also 7 weeks pregnant with IC we should exchange contact info. I think I'm flaring from the pre natals and I'm going to have to go off them. That or I have a UTI, I will find out tomorrow at doctors. Pregnancy with IC is indeed very challenging but I know we will make it through. Can we share contact info?

                Re: Is anyone currently pregnant?

Hello I am currently 14 weeks with my first pregnancy. I found the first 6-7 weeks bad with my IC. Then from 7-13 I was ok. This week (week 14) I am getting my pain and urgency back a bit. I am still on 10mg of endep a night and my OB is fine with that.

Have you asked your OB what medications they are happy for you to take? It might be a combo of not being on meds and being pregmant. Let’s stay in touch

If the prenatal vitamins are a problem, I suggest you print out the contents of MultiRight (a vitamin developed specifically for IC patients) and ask your OB doctor about taking those.

                    Re: Is anyone currently pregnant?

Hi there, yes a little started at the lack of recent responses on here. I am 15 weeks pregnant... everything was going flowingly until two weeks ago when I had sex with my partner and started to feel some symptoms including itchy privates, etc. Then a week ago I thought I had fully recovered and I flared up after two nights of red curry and have been quite miserable ever since, peeing about every 45 minutes and often in pain. I was in remission for YEARS before this. Everything was manageable and hardly ever had any pain.

I have found Boric Acid suppositories to be helpful as well as doubling up on my probiotics VSL#3 and also taking CBD oil hoping this might help with inflammation/ healing. And of course trying to stick with a strick IC Diet, low to no sugar, lots of broccoli and other non-flaring greens, chicken and rice or noodles.

Painful though to say the least right now. Praying this doesn't last long.

If there's a way to be in touch with you guys let me know you can also email me at [email protected] or FB friend me, etc

You can private message anyone in this forum... and, yes, some boards are slower than others but it is the only pregnancy and IC board out there. Remember that with your hormones wildly fluctuating during pregnancy that your bladders ability to tolerate risk foods will be reduced. The red curry could have been pushing it that's for sure.

I would also talk with your doctor about using the other things that you are using, especially the boric acid suppositories and the CBD oil. I have no idea if those are appropriate for pregnant mothers.

Welcome welcome! We also have a pregnancy resource center on the main part of the website!

                        Re: Is anyone currently pregnant?

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and have had a horrible time with the IC. The pain is bad, I can't empty my bladder and I'm usually running to bathroom
every 10-15 minutes. I had to get off my pain meds and was switched from my muscle relaxer to flexeril. I take buspar for anxiety. After going into
my urologist's office in tears from the pain he gave me a 3 day supply of Norco. I have to spread that out for 2-3 weeks and then hope I can get another script (although I may have to get off of it again in 3rd trimester). Pain clinic dropped me when I found out I was pregnant. I don't think it's this way everywhere, but TN has strict laws about opiates and
pregnancy. I've tried bladder installations, which just irritated me more. I'm taking prelief and drinking PH water.
I'm sorry you're suffering and hope it gets better. I've talked to IC patients who have gotten a lot better during the second trimester. Unfortunately that hasn't been the case for me.

I'm so sorry you're having such a difficult time. Are you following your IC diet? If not, I suggest you try that (see link in my signature). And I suggest you talk with your doctors about trying something like CystoProtek. I know you said you tried instillations, but do you know what was in them? Something like Marcaine or Lidocaine instilled just might help with the pain.

                          Is this your first child?

                          Sending well wishes,

Thank you for your response. The diet I've been on and off of and it doesn't seem to make a big difference in my symptoms, but it looks like there
is some good information on that link you suggested. I've never tried Cystoprotek. Do you know if it's safe during pregnancy? I'll also ask my OB and urologist. I noticed that you mentioned a prenantal vit developed for IC in an earlier post. I will definitely check into that! I think the installations do have heparin and lidocaine in them, but I'll have to double check. I might try an installation again. Yes, this is my first child

I’m 7 weeks pregnant and have had IC on off for three years . I am in UK so don’t get same drugs here as most are not licensed here. I was on Elmiron and Gabapentin . I’ve had to stop both now and flares are back plus I’m back on the austere IC diet . I have been taking multiright vitamins low acid formula from US ( not available here)!!! I was also using aloe Vera pills which I showed my gp and she said they are fine . I’ve been getting contractions every day then looked them up and it says do not take if pregnant! I’m freaking out now as had miscarriage a year and half ago ! Are the multiright low acid vitamins ok to take while pregnant as it says to check with healthcare professional , but I now don’t trust the stupid doctor I saw ! We don’t have a private healthcare system here it’s all free on national health but it means you don’t get same level of care as you would there and I can’t afford private doctors as they cost thousands here and insurance won’t cover pregnancy or pre existing conditions so I’ve had to fight to even see a specialist ( I know more about IC than he does !!) so frustrating! I can’t take pregnacare or any other pregnancy vitamins because they are too acidic. Can anyone tell me what vitamins are safe ????
