I think the only way to be sure whether or not diet helps you is to eliminate all of the potential problem foods from the diet for a few weeks to see if it helps. If you see improvement at that point, then it's usually possible to add back some favorites with no problem. If you add them back one at a time, you can tell fairly quickly which ones are a problem so you can stay away from those.

does diet really help? I tried for several months but didn't see a significant difference. But I never cut out certain things like yeast and dairy?

Elmiron in combination with Vistaril, Detrol LA and Elavil has changed my life. It wasn't until we added the Elmiron to the mix that I began to feel almost normal again. Worth a try.

I take Elmiron. It takes a while to get relief from it. But for me it's well worth the wait. I had stopped it for my first pregnancy and had such luck with it that I started back on it a few months after my son's birth. It truly takes a lot of hard work and time to find the right meds.

I'm glad you found this site. You'll get great info from it. There are as many or more IC patients out there who do feel good most times.

Take care,
Jaime

started a topic getting no relief!

getting no relief!

Since I married, 3 years ago, I have had hydrodistention of the bladder, been on and of paxil (which some of my many doctors believe may help control IC), countless bladder installations, 2 miscarriages, given birth to a beautiful, healthy boy, had an abcess removed from a skene's gland (which they found on my urinary tract), and still no relief. I have virtually no intimate relationship with my husband and have to decide what to do next. My choices seem to be neurontin, paxil, muscle relaxants or Elmiron - anyone out there with a similar history? Any suggestions?
