  • SIBO Test - Lactulose solution

Has anyone had to do the SIBO breath test and drink a tablespoon of lactulose solution as part of the test? Will it irritate an IC bladder? My functional medicine practitioner doesn't think it will, but I'm really scared to drink anything other than water! I want to have this test done though, because my IBS definitely affects my IC, and so far treatments for my IBS have been unsuccessful, so she thinks I might have SIBO. Apparently the lactulose solution is also used as a laxative (when taken daily) and the drug info that came with it says that it's derived from lactose (I'm ok with dairy), and is an "intestinal acidifier". That's the term that worries me as far as my IC. I'm hoping someone here has done it before without a problem. I'm really scared to take it, but I have to do the test on Monday.

I'm not familiar with this medication --- please share your experience after you have the test. I hope it goes well for you.

    Warm hugs,
