  • Dry nose???

I have chronic bloody nose issues. My doctor said that it was because my nose was dry and suggested using saline mist and a humidifier; I constantly have a bloody nose if I do not use my saline mist or humidifier. CONSTANTLY!!! It is ridiculous and I recently developed an idea in my head. I was wondering whether it could have to do with my IC and the meds I take. Does this seem possible or anywhere near logical...the nose and mouth are connected and I frequently experience dry mouth? I was just wondering if anyone else had dry or bloody nose issues and if so what meds you are on. My other theory was just it may be related to my sensitive skin. Anyways, any feed back, opinions, and theories (whether I am crazy or not) would be appreciated!!! Thanks♥

(P.S. Sorry if this was not in the proper...errr...forum...or thread area?? Anyways, I had no idea where to put it!!! Sorry.)

Yes, meds can dry one out in the mouth causing dental problems, the eyes and nose, then dry and/or cold weather makes the matter worse. I have been running a warm humidifier for 24 hours a day and try and stay near it. My eyes became so dry my cornea scatched up from the eyelid sticking to the cornea due to dryness. I purchased a warm humidifier and it has worked great. One can also have a humidifier installed in the main heating/AC unit in the house.

Ugh! I know this dryness is a huge issue. It is a wonder my skin doesn't have more wrinkles. I constantly have to apply moisturizers to my face and can't use soap to wash it. I had none of these problems before taking meds.

HI! We just bought a cool air humidifier a cpl weeks ago and it's made a big improvement in our dry skin and noses. You can get some pretty good deals if you check online and not at your local retailer. Medication could be the culprit also. Have you talked with a ENT about the nose bleed problem?? I think if the humidifier doesn't work that would be my next step. Good luck! Roxie

My nose is also dry, but so is my husband's. It's the fact that it's winter and we are in a heated house. On the advice of my physician, I use a saline spray, which helps significantly.

My nose/sinuses are in terrible condition right now! I can barely breathe my nostrils and upper sinues are so bad. I also have a lesion of some sort up there and had a CT done yesterday to see what's going on in there. I am using Astelin nose spray right now, it's an RX, but it does help those dry itchies I get. I go on sneezing rampages too, and it seems to help with that as well. Unfortunately all this dry weather and the heat running in the house, car, etc just drys me out beyond belief.

A LOT of IC meds will contribute to drying you out as well....anything like Ditropan, or a bp medicine....I take a diuretic for my bp and it dries out my nose, eyes and mouth, and makes me pee double what I already would!!

I take Detrol LA and it is awlful for drying up the mouth, nose, and everything else. Need to drink plenty of water. For the mouth, I chew gum, it helps keeps the saliva in your mouth flowing.

I do think certain medication is responsible for it, but the weather is not helping it neither.

My nose is constantly really dry, and my mouth is as well sometimes. My dentist gave me an OTC mouthwash and toothpaste specifically for dry mouth, which seems to help. I don't do anything for the nose except probably annoy people with my odd-sounding sniffing, but maybe I'll give the saline a try.

I read somewhere on here about the Neti Pot and Nasaflo. It is irrigation system for your nose and sinuses. You can Google them for information. I do believe that either Walgreens or CVS probably carries the Nasaflo.

                  Hey,

I have ALWAYS had dry/ bloody nose trouble. I was rushed to the emergency room a number of times from it as a child. For me, it was allergies. At the time, I had basically no OTHER allergy symptoms. Is it possible it is allergies for you too? I know that now, my IC and migraines get worse when I have allergies so I tend to think its ALL related somehow....

If your nosebleeds are bad, you can get a clamp from your doc. Although it is uncomfortable, it stops the bleeding and its not a pill or anything you would take oral so it won't affect your IC. I STILL have my clamp from when I was a kid and pull it out every now and then. I use a humidifier in my home for the dryness, and OCCASIONALLY I use saline.

                    Dry nose

I also suffer from dry nose and have for some time it is worse in the winter although we have a humifier going all the time, I use spray for my nose and have a problem with my eyes sometimes they are so blurry that I can hardly read the newspaper, my sister said it could be like dry eyes and to use something like natural tears. I am going to try it. Some day I am going to dry up and blow away like an old tumbleweed I think.
Take care and good luck to all

I've been having non stop dry nose first on one side now on both. This started a couple of weeks ago and now I found it sooo annoying. I will call my ENT tomorrow b/c I don't know if saline is drying it more or if there's anything else I could do. I used a vaporiser for 15 minutes yesterday and today. It felt great but 1 hr after my nose was so dry again. I'm sure it is the Elavil I'm been taking for a few months now b/c I've never experienced dry nose. Elavil as well as other meds that list dry mouth as side effects, is b/c they dry the mucosa, nose and eyes are part of it.

I'll put the humidifier in my room now, but I'm most of the day at work. Yesterday I was so desperate at work that I warmed a cup of water and inhaled for about 2-3 minutes at my desk.
I also have dry eyes but I control that with warm compreses, Systayne and fish oil (orally of course)

This may sound off the wall, but I have problems with dry nasal passages too. So, I went to an ENT and he told me that since I am getting older (thanks Doc, like I needed to be reminded of that...!), that my mucous membranes were drier than a younger woman's. So, he said to put estrogen up my nose (I'm on Estrace) and it works like a charm! I put a blob of it on a Q-tip and swab it around (which is a REALLY strange feeling!). But, no annoying dryness and no nosebleeds!

Yeah Ocean spray rocks, I've tired more expensive brands and less expensive ones and they are not as good. I realized what was causing my dry nose wsa Astelin nasal intihistamine. i stopped and no more dry nose (weird). I still use the saline though and sometime I inhale water vapor for a few minutes.
