    Got a new toothpaste!


    Went to the dentist today and told them all the meds I currenlty take and that I have IC. Seeing that drymouth is very prevalent with ICers, My dentist precribed Prevadent® toothpaste. I have to use it 2x/day.

    Unfortunately insurance does not cover this Rx. But it's only $14 a tube. Seems like a lot but dental work costs much more....anyways just thought I'd share.

      Yvette,where did you purchase it?I have been having major dental work done,due to all the meds that I have been on.I just bought Sonicare and it has been working wellbut my dentist never mentioned Prevadent.My e-mail is [email protected] Thanks,delores

          yvette,I found it at OSCO/Savon.I have to have my dentist call the script into the Pharmacy but I also found Biotene for dry mouth care.It is an Antibacterial,Dry Mouth Tooth Paste with Calcium.The cost is $7.00 per tube.Thanks for letting us know,delores

              Hi! I have the biotene toothpaste too, I buy the gum as well. They found 2 cavaties yesterday at the dentist--their feeling was that maybe prevadent might work better than biotene, for me anyways. I'm bummed...I hate cavaties. i hate getting them filled even more!!!

                  Dentists are a part of the medical community but he had no idea what IC was.When I first started with him,I had to cancel a couple of appointments at the last minute and they were not very happy--cannot have teeth filled and go potty at the same time.He also ASSUMED that I was not taking care of my teeth properly.I took care of that,gave him alist of all the meds that I am on and what IC was.He is a lot more understanding now,even when I am having a tooth filled,with the novacaine and meds it makes my mouth even drier and I have to keep swallowing but he now kids with me and says if you have to swallow let me know so that I can move my finger and not take a bite out of it.I think that dentists should be aware of any and all medical problems and we should also keep them informed of any changes.He told me if I go on Elmiron to be sure to make him aware because my clotting time would need to be watched.So,please be sure that your dentist knows of all the medications that you are on!!
