  • Coconut oil for perineum massage- IC safe?

    Hi All!
I haven't been on this board in a long time as I have seemed to be able to manage my IC symptoms, thank goodness.
Now that I am pregnant though I do have a question. I have Sjogren's syndrome and IC. My vaginal area is very dry and have heard about doing perineum massage to moisturize and stretch this area before child birth. Was wondering whether coconut oil would irritate my bladder if my massaged in the vaginal area? I think I can remember reading somewhere that it had anti bacterial properties. Has anybody heard anything similar or had experiences using coconut oil? Would love to hear from you.

    Hi Elaine,

My Physical therapist recommended coconut oil, or Crisco.

I had problems finding creams to use in medications that was compounded. I tried many. Hydrogenated vegetable oil in a cream base was tolerated. The pelvic pain center at UNC did a study and recommends using a little crisco to lubricate the labia, vulva after bathing. I use it and so far so good. I like the smell of coconut, I'll have to test it out soon.
Diagnosis: Endometriosis, IC, PID, PCS, PFD, PN/PNE, VV, fibro, Pelvic Adhesions, DDD, Hysterectomy at a young age. Unable to take estrogen, causes pain—extremely bad pain.

Thankful: For all the support and comfort I receive on this site.
