  • Filing for disability - IC, Fibromyalgia & More

    Hi all,

I also posted this in under the Disability thread, however, it didn't look like that is really active so I thought I'd try here as well. Haven't been on here in a while, but I've had IC for many years, in addition to chronic pelvic adhesions (scar tissue), chronic ruptured ovarian cysts, and pelvic floor dysfunction, all of which cause me severe pelvic pain. In addition, I was diagnosed last year with Fibromyalgia and CFS. I am going to pain management, several different specialists for my various conditions, I am on a very strict diet, I walk daily, have had surgeries, multiple physical therapists, etc.

In short, I have tried everything I can think of and will continue to do so, but I am still not well. My pain management doctors aren't the best (in the process of changing) so I am still in quite a bit of pain on my best days, and when I'm in any sort of flare, it is unbearable! I have terrible back and hip pain, so walking is difficult, and my coordination and balance are always off. Besides the pain, I just feel sick all of the time, and my fatigue is extreme! I have nausea and dizziness almost constantly. Plus, because of this health stuff, and not being able to function and live my life, I have developed pretty serious anxiety and depression. I am on tmt for this as well, but still struggle quite a lot. Through all of this, I have tried to maintain a high-stress management job that requires a two hour commute each way. I work for wonderful people who have been very patient with me, but it's at the point where I am still too sick, missing too much work, and unable to perform like I need to when I am here. So...I'm leaving my job.

I am so scared as I financially support my family! My Husband is trying to find work right now (he has been home with the kids) but I have no way of knowing when that will happen. I do currently have Long-term disability benefits through my employer, and if I qualify they then apply on my behalf for Federal Disability (I guess if the Feds pay, then they don't have to). If I don't get approved through this, then I have to hope that I will get the Federal on my own.

I have read a bit about the ruling on IC, but I am curious if anyone else has multiple conditions like I do, and have applied for disability? If so, what was your experience like? Also really an other tips on what I should or shouldn't do to improve my chances of getting approved would be greatly appreciated! I have talked to most of my specialists about this, and they are on board with supporting my claim. I also met with my primary dr and he said he will handle my claim and coordinate getting all my records, etc with my other doctors. I think given all of this, I should have a pretty good chance right?!

Thanks for taking the time to read this and for any input!

    Louise
