  • Appointment Tomorrow! Help Please!

I have an appointment with a new GI doctor tomorrow. The last doctor diagnosed me with IBS although at the time I didn't have constipation or diarhhea. I guess I'd have to say it's IBS-C if anything but I'm still not sure that's what it is. I think it may be a food allergy or intolerance and I've thought about giving up wheat/gluten. It's tough though since I'm already on the IC diet and I am allergic to milk. Anyway, just wondered if anyone has tried any of the more natural treatments for IBS....digestive enzymes maybe? I already take acacia fiber every day (2tsp 2x day). I hate taking meds...actually I'm scared to take them! Help! Thanks!

I fluxuate between constipation with my IBS and severe diarrhea with a Crohn's flare. My GI doc gave me Miralax a long time ago and it helps with C and D by leveling out the water in the large intestine. It's an RX, but it's safe, tasteless, and odorless and works really well. It's a type of fiber supplement, but the best one I've ever used. You might try asking for that. If C is your major problem, a lot of us simply use Milk Of Magnesia a few times a week. It works wonders, and it's cheap too, and doesn't seem to bother the IC.

04/17/09 Crohn's disease almost killed me with a combo of extreme constipation from pain medications. My bowel ruptured, I almost died from peritonitis and spent several days in the ICU then more in a private room on the floor. If you have any questions about severe constipation from pain meds please don't hesitate to send me a message.
