  • how to deal with constipation and pain??

am having a bout of constipation due to increased use of pain meds I think, normally take senokot, but it is not doing much and am having awful bladder pain as well as cramping pain down there and now spasms from pushing muscles as it was causing so much pain.
pain is like period pains but 10x worse - not had a period for 3/4 months so it can't be that, it is excruciating to walk about
taken another senokot....and high fibre drink

my question is what do you do for the pain when constipated? i am in pain but don't want to take painkillers as the cramps from constipation are bad....

I have been on a mix of tramadol when needed and codeine 30mg daily 2x for months, but this last week needed more, but never had this much pain from it.......

please help me with any advice on how to cope with this pain and avoid constipation. I normally tend to take a senna tablet or high fibre drink if my bowels play up and the next day am okay.......

    Hi sweetangel.
Sorry about your constipation issues, that is always an awful feeling. Have you tried asking your doctor tp prescribe something like maybe miralax? That mad has helped out a lot people I know that deal with severe chronic constipation. It is likely a combo of the meds you take that are causing you all the constipation, and that us rough because you need your pain meds. I would talk to your doctor about maybe giving you something stronger to help with the constipation. I hope things get moving soon.

      Hi sweetangel,
I had the same problem too but I finally found a way to help it. I found a bran diet plan which has helped the constipation as well. I have it posted under the diet boards which says "seems to be working". It has a blueberry, flax oil (with other ingredients) posted. You can even drink the blueberry shake twice a day if you want. It took me 3 days before I could tell but once it satred to help it helps a lot.

Please don't strain for a bowel movement. It's better to use something like a fleets enema than it is to push. You might want to talk with your doctor about taking a stool softener when you are on meds that are constipating. And there's always good old milk of magnesia for temporary relief.

I use Miralax to help with the constipation. I read about it here on a post that was posted by SandyRN. It works well for me and does not make my stomach cramp.

            Aloha Ladies--
Be sure to pick up the REAL Milk of Magnesia by Phillips. I made the mistake of using a generic (Smart Sense) from Kmart and got a really BAD flare. The Smart Sense brand has ethyl alcohol and saccarhin--yikes! I went to Long's today and check the Phillips brand--none of that was in theirs. There is a reason generics are cheaper--it is not the active ingredients, but the inert ingredients that make the difference.
