  • Fennel tea?

    Hi,
I'm thinking of trying the fennel tea for IBS...has anyone tried it? Has it worsened your IC?

    Thanks!

Tracy ~ 29 years old with Toxoplasmosis (from birth), Fibro/CFS (since age 13...ouch), severe IC, IBS-D, severe PFD (surgery made it even worse), vulvodynia, hiatal hernia, GERD, ulcers, severe gastritis, numbness/tingling in extremeties, pelvic nerve damage--mainly urethral, urinary retention, pelvic reconstruction 7.10.07 (fixed rectocele, rectal prolapse, lifted bladder, urethra, uterus, and repaired vaginal walls), Raynaud's, 2 severely herniated discs in neck and one in low back, anemia, PCOS, anxiety/depression/panic attacks (since forever). Still having major bowel problems (inability to empty rectum...any ideas?? ).

I'd like to be on House, MD as a medical mystery.

I take: LIQUID Atarax, Flomax, Soma (yet again), acidophilus, Glucosamine/Chondroitin with MSM & collagen, d-mannose. MAJOR flare from Cystoprotek! Re-trying freeze dried aloe vera w/some decent results!

Tried and failed: Elavil, Ultram, Prosed DS, Benadryl, Bentyl, Valium, Ativan, Zanaflex, Librax, Sanctura (all caused retention among other things), bladder instills (owwwwww!), Elmiron (allergic-throat tightening). Failed Interstim-no feeling in sacral nerves...

I'm allergic to penicillan, sulfa, reglan, quinolones, clindamycin, and now LATEX!

    your IBS

Is your IBS the kind that just like constipates or is it like going all the time? Mine is the first kind, and I drink Gauyaki Yerba Mate drinks I find it at Ingle grocers, anyway it helps me. I can't drink the rasberry flavor but the Yerba Mate and the Spearmint/peppermint flavors help with the IBS and they don't bother my IC. You can find out more about this tea at guayaki.com. I take Zelnorm as well and I can tell when I haven't takin it I have a hard time going at all.
I used to give my daughter a colic tablet I got from health food stores when she was little because she had really bad colic, the kind that was due to gas and stuff. They had fennel and chammomile in them. They say those are good for stomache problems. It was the only think that worked for her. I would try it. I used to drink chammomile tea a lot before I found these tea drinks. I thought it helped me, and didn't bother my IC. Good luck.

    I was on...
Loestrin 24(to prevent period induced flares)
Elmiron since Feb.'07 for a year and half
Atenolol for Migraines(caused by elmiron) since June '07(Had to have the amount doubled)
    Tried Prevacid didn't work.
Tried Axert for migraines didn't work.
Tried Frova for migraines made worse.
    Atarax Feb.'07-Feb'08
Used to take IBS meds of all kinds, now I use Yerba Mate guayaki drinks, eating lots of fiber and flax seed, and taking probiotics and added magnesium. My probiotics help w/ flares too.

Now for the occasional flare related to stress, I take probiotic eleven and marshmallow root and it will make it stop and Im fine again. Otherwise I dont have many problems w/ my severe IC like I used to.Thank God!

Find the good in all things and then
anticipate the good so that you may enjoy it.

    (KJV)Psalms 37:
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Hi there! I see you have IBS-D....ugh I can completely relate. The fennel tea, if you brew it nice and strong, really helped with gas and bloating and all noisy stuff....I don't like the taste of it though...I had to dump loads of sugar in it.I don't know if it was iced it would work the same.....or even room temp.

I found the peppermint tea really helped with IBS-D spasms (diarrhea esp. would calme down)

As far as my IC, Fennel tea never bothered it and I was fine with the Peppermint tea too. I'd say try little amounts at a time and see how you do...
      Good Luck!
Somewhere there's a reason /Why things go like they do /Somewhere there's a reason /Why some things just fall through /We don't always see them /For what they really are /But I know there's a reason /Just can't see it from this far /Maybe I don't like it, /But I have no choice /I know that somewhere, /Someone hears my voice / I thought I knew it all /I thought I had it made /How could it end this way? /I thought I knew Somewhere there's a reason /Why things don't go my way /Somewhere there's a reason /That I cannot explain /Just like the change of season, /Just may not be my turn /But I know there's a reason, /The lesson's mine to learn

I have IBS - C and found the fennel tea doesn't bother my IC at all however I didn't notice any relief from it either.

I don't like the taste of Fennel either, but I have major problems with gas. I found some Fennel capsules (can't really taste them, just swallow with water), which I am currently taking with every meal. It seems like they may be helping, but it's hard to know for sure.
