  • Caused from IBS I think

    Hi

I have been a lot of stomach issues lately, main symptom is 20-30 mins after eating I get really bad abdominal pain, that last 2-4 hours and nothing I have done seems to help it.

It is not what I am eating anything can cause it, for a few weeks it happened every other day or so and not after every meal. Last week it started to be everyday, but not every meal, then of course it happened after every meal, I could get away with eating a few mouthfuls of things but not more.

I realized then that it was very much like the attacks I had before having my gallbladder removed.

I tried pain meds, not much help, antispasmodics, no help caused retention as usually. Tried a few other meds but none helped, the only thing I can do is lie down with a heating pad.

The pain is all over and aggravates my IC big time. No sleep for me.

The other day my Dr. decided I need an ultrasound to see if they can see anything going on (waiting to find out when this is), and put me on diclectin (doxylamine succ/pyridoxine) a medication used for morning sickness.

I have taken 3 pills, I am to take one in the PM/AM.

They about 1/2 the abdominal pain, but really increase IC pain, my bladder is on fire as well as a very sore low back and a bit of retention.

I didn't take a pill this am and feel quite a bit better IC wise, I have not eaten yet so don't know about my abdomen, it dies down to a dull roar when I don't eat.

I talked to my Dr. and told what was going on and he said to try 2 pills tonight and see how it goes. I think he heard my say it made my retention worse, but not the burning in the bladder. Basically he left it up to me if I take it again tonight or not and to call or go see him tomorrow.

I need to do something as I can't function like this, don't eat (have trouble with blood sugar), eat have severe pain for next few hours, take med and have IC flare for a day, I feel kind of stuck.

Anyone else tried this med as it is used to morning sickness, and did you flare from it. I suspect I am flaring from the Vit B6 in it.

It also drys me out big time so I am soooooo thirsty, hence needing to pee lots which I don't mind when I can go but it takes about 6 hours after taking med before I can go.

    Any suggestions, all welcome

    Thanks MG

    Hi Mothergoose...

I don't know if this will help... but there are two medications that come to mind that helped for me at some point in this journey.

ASACOL - given to people with colitis (this helped the best - although I was somewhat allergic)
Buscopan (not sure if this is spelled right)

I have also tried dicetel - but I find that useless so I try really hard to control my IBS by diet.

Just some suggestions. Hope you feel better soon!

    Wizbe

    Current Meds:
    1 Elmiron 100mg 3x a day
    1 Cimetidine 300mg 2x a day
    4 Gabapentin 300mg 3x a day (3600mg)
    1 - 2 Atarax 25mg at bedtime
    1 baclofen 10mg 3x a day as needed
200mg of Pyridium 3x a day (usually do in cycles - on for a week or two as needed) - I am very careful about this.
2 belladonna and opium suppositories as needed for pain daily.
Bladder instillations (Lidocaine, Heparin, & Sodium Bicarbonate)

I have tried but failed -
lidocaine instillations, heparin instillations, oxybutynin by mouth also called ditropan, tylenol 3s with coedine, cyclobenzaphrine, Ativan, vesicare, Oxytrol patches worked for 3 to 4 years and then failed, I tried Uracyst and had some success but my urologist felt that it was not successful so we moved on to trying something else. .

      Thanks Wizbe

I can't take buscopan, it make my retention worse, and I find it doesn't help enough anyways.

dicetel I have not tried, I will ask my dr about it on Tuesday.

I was to see him on Monday, after my trip to the ER yesterday, but I have to go out of town to get a problem tooth dealt with. Soooooo not looking forward to this, but I can't put up with the toothache any more. Scared they are going to want to pull the tooth. I had a root cancel a couple months ago and it still hurts, last weekend progressed from just not being able to bite on it too, a full blown toothache again, my local dentist said it is a failed root cancel and now need a specialist. The only up side of this is I have a consult and then they have booked me a couple of hours later for procedure, so I won't have much time to get worked up about it. although they did say on the phone they are thinking it maybe another tooth altogether, but my dentist can't tell. This dental specialist has better ex ray machines to tell whats going on.

Well I got off topic, an update to my ab pain is:

Now that I have been thinking about it I realize it has been happening since end of March. At first it would happen if I ate lunch and then went out for a walk, so I changed the order I did things, I still got the ab pain from time to time but I was at home and could sit with my heating pad.

I had an ultrasound 2 years ago and it showed the duct.tube left from having my gallbladder removed was dilated, but they didn't think too much of it at the time, so I am scheduled for an Ultrasound to have it rechecked, actually my whole ad checked to see if they can see a problem anywhere.

I didn't do well on the med my Dr rxed me as it caused my bladder to flare big time and then I went into total retention so I spent yesterday afternoon at the ER, getting my bladder drained.

The flare has settled down a bit now and I can pee again, so things are looking up, but will X that med off my list.

I think my abdomen is a bit better as well, so I will keep my fingers crossed it stays that way, because until I have the ultrasound in mid Sept, there is not much else I can do.

      Have a good day MG

Have they checked your pancreas? I developed drug induced pancreatitis like 6 years ago and it went away by itself. It did however, hurt very bad after I would eat. It wasn't gassy pains or like you have to poop just sharp shooting pains. My upper belly was very tender. My pancreatitis had no known cause because I didn't drink or have anything wrong with my enzymes accept amalyse and my lipase. My gallbladder was fine and I had no stones. At that time I took prilosec because I had really bad heartburn. After I changed my diet and found out I was fructose intolerant I felt better.
        Diagnosis: IC '09, vulvodynia '10, fructose intolerance '06, GERD '06, fibromyalgia '09, IBS '10 and TMJ '09, PCOS '11, genital herpes '12

Current Meds: Butrans patch, welbutrin, lamictol, geodon, xanax, aldactone, linzess, topimax, trazadone and diflucan as needed.

Meds tried before: Elmiron, elavil, antibiotics, welbutrin, cymbalta, prozac, nerve blocks, instills, nyastatin, flexerol, percocet, naproxen (which was what I was given for pain for years).
