risks with acidophilus?

    risks with acidophilus?

    I am thinking of trying acidophilus for reoccurring yeast infections.
    I was wondering if there are any risks in taking them? I have had kidney stones several times in the past and I am afraid of getting too much calcium.

    Is Azo Yeast the same thing? I am taking that already and I ended up getting one anyway. I took a round of antibiotics and ended up with a yeasty beasty!

    Also what is the recommended dose for yeast prevention?

    Treatment:
    Elmiron 100 mg 2 x's day(stopped again for hair loss)
    Aviod certain foods/drink
    Drink lots and lots of water
    Birth Control pill to stop ovulation flares
    Cystex as needed
    Tbs of pure honey

      I take azo yeast once a day...I had a stone last July,
      But at the time I was not taking azo.. So I cant say thats what contributed to causing the stone...

      Meds For IC: Lyrica-25mg Glucosamine-500 MSM-500mg, Prosed Ds -When Flaring

      Other Meds: Levlite- Continious Birtcontrol, Micardis-40mg for High Blood Pressure

      Meds I have Tried:
      Topamax,Tofranil, Elmiron, Atarax, Cymbalta, Elavil, Enablex, Detral La, Prydium.
      Lexapro< Bad reaction to this med!
      Intstills, could not continue them due to some kind of reaction after 3rd instill. Tasted the lidocaine in my mouth, tongue and lips went numb then went into what seemed like a panic attack. Shaking, racing heart, tingling face/head, blood pressure shot up..

      Dx With IC in Nov 2006 with Hydro/Cysto
      Hydro/Cysto Caused Bladder to Rupture.

      Other Dxs-Vulvodynia,Fibro, Endo, IBS, HPV, Migraines, Spastic Colon, Mild Dysplasia.

          Once you get the infection, the over-the-counter stuff might not work too well. I think it would be a good idea to call your doctor. Taking the acidophilus might help prevent another one once you get rid of the active infection you have now.

              I took a diflucan on Sunday and I am beter but I can still tell I have one.
              I am wondering if I may need another one.
              I am wanting to do whatever it takes to keep from getting another one!!!
              I also found online that acidophilus is good to prevent UTI's

                  Acidophilus doesn't really have calcium...it is probiotic...friendly bacteria which is good for preventing yeast and UTI's since basically if there is a healthy amount of good bacteria bad bacteria have less to survive on.
                  Dose is difficult to determine. You probably need more to get a healthy amount started...more when taking an antibiotic and less once you get things under control.

                  It depends on how much yeast is in your body as to how much you need. I needed a lot after years of antibiotic treatment but now am going down on the amount.
                  I suggest somewhere in the area of 5-10 billion cells for a while. Please read the info at the link it can help a lot.

                      I bought some acidophilius today at rite-aid. It has 1.5 billion per capsule. It recommends taking one to two caps. a day. I am thinking of taking 3 a day. That was the highest number of bacteria available at rite-aid. I am going to take that until I can get to a health food store out of town this weekend.
                      I am excitied about getting started on this.
