  • Sound like a yeast infection? Help!

I have never had a yeast infection (at least not one I was aware of).

I am sort of flaring from something I ate so I have some burning when I void but it feels different than the "normal" burn. It's like a stining. I also have INTENSE itching in the inner and ourter vaginal-ish area. The more I itch the more it itches (and I have stopped itching because...well it makes it worse). It's also a little swollen ... down there. I have no discharge of any kind though.

Does this sound like a yest infection? The soonest appointment I have with the gyn in April 12. And that was for heavy vaginal bleeding during my period 2 months ago (they make no real effort to squeeze you in). I was thinking of trying the OTC Monistat stuff.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

yep...sounds like one to me! Ice in the area can help. Also monistat, lots of yogurt if you can eat it. You can also call your doctor. They may want to see you since this could be your first one. The would give you an aweosome pill called diflucan. Good luck!

I agree with Erika, it does sound like a yeast infection but on the over the counter medicine it will tell you not to use it if you have never had one before. I would call the dr office and let them know your symptoms and that you think you have a yeast infection but have never had one before. I would think they would want to see you for that. I can't believe it takes so long to get an appointment. I called my gyn for weird bleeding and they got me in the same day, but they are a really big practice and have one doctor that is on each day just as an urgent care dr.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

Went to the doctor, saw the "on call" doc becuase it's Saturday and my primary wasn't there. He looked (just on the outside) and said from what he saw and what I said it felt like he thought it was a yeast infection. Gave me Diflucan and said it should get better by Monday. And if it doesn't, try some of the OTC cream. And if that doesn't work go to see my gyn.

I am SO glad I went.

Thanks everyone for the advice (specially to see the doc :-) )

Be very careful using OTC cream... I have found it can really make your IC flare..I always take azo yeast, so I dont get an infection, but you can take this while you have an infection for the burning..Another thing if your IC can tolorate it is yogurt..Just dont get the fruit ones..
          Hope you get better soon...
