  • Yeast everywhere!!!!!

Ok so I have "enough yeast for 20 loaves of bread" to quote my doctor. Sad considering I took a diflucan on saturday and completely cut out my yeast and sugar. so diflucan obviously is not working. mShe gave me a special gel to balance my ph. Is there anything else I can take to help this along. it's getting very frustrating!!!

I know how frustrating yeast can be! My naturopath told me to use something called HMF, a supplement made by Genestra. It contains lactobacillus (sp?), the good bacteria. You should be able to find it at a natural health store, or anywhere that sells natural supplements.
    Good luck!

How many pills of diflucan did you take? Sometimes you have to be on them for awhile in order for them to work, especially if you have alot of yeast issues. WHen you say you have yeast everywhere, do you mean vaginal yeast infection only or is it systemic?

They have a yeast diet you can go on where you eat no sugar or carbs at all for a few weeks, but I would talk to your doctor before doing a strict diet like that, but it has been known to help some. Also, if you are having the yeast issue in your mouth or on the tongue, there is a med called nystatin that is like a mouth wash that can help alleviate the yeast in the mouth. You do need a prescription for it though. Just an idea. I hope you get rid of the yeast soon.

        Test it

So, if the Diflucan isnt working why dosent this genius Doc take a sample and see what member of the Candida family it is? Perhaps you even have two different strains? You need a culture, and one that just isnt looking for Albicans.

If a culture hasn't already been done, I think it would be a good idea.

HI! One Diflucan never works for me. The last time I was on it I had to take one everyday for 15 days........that worked. I deal with yeast all the time because of the PPI's that I have to take. Good luck.....dealing with yeast isn't fun! Roxie

I agree with the thought that you need a culture. I cultured for C. Glabrata a few months ago and now I'm waiting results of another culture which for some reason takes two weeks according to my Dr.s office. Two doses of Gynazole almost kicked it but I still feel pain and burning. I read Glabrata can be hard to kick yet they're taking their own sweet time while I'm on fire.

A self help strategy would be to eat PLAIN yogurt to help the good bacteria fight the yeast. Some IC'ers are sensitive to yogurt so use your judgement, but it really helps. I always eat extra when I take antibiotics to help the nausea and diareahea(sp) and prevent yeast.

Oh a couple more self help things:

                  1. Wear white cotton underware or prefably no underware to help the crotch stay dry, no undies to bed please!
2.The medicated wipes they sell are great for the itch and burning pain
3.Ice can help with the redness and swelling around the vagina and vulva
4.This is strange but blow dry the area(on cool) when you get out of the shower to ensure it is completly dry
5.You can buy lactobacillius tablets, and inset one into your vagina if you can't tolerate yogurt.

I hope some of these can help you get comfortable. I know you must be miserable. About the only thing worse than yeast is an ic flare. Hang in there!

Do these yeast infections make your IC pain worse? I am just beginning to see a connection and wondering what all I am missing.

                        IC & Yeast

Two of the most horrible IC, and vulvar flares I ever had in my life, turned out to be yeast infection. Once I started Diflucan, the symptoms dissapeared in 24 hours. I was so sure I had a bladder infection I made them take two urine specimans and culture them both, they were both negative.
Yeast can also get into the bladder and causes a flare. Red, burning, spasms, frequency, pain can all be caused by yeast. Thats why it is so hard to sort out symptoms down south. It can be hard to pin point the pain and where it is coming from; its not always the bladder which we ICers blame for everything.

                          guess what!

Me with the big mouth, has developed a TERRIBLE yeast infection. From antibiotics from an infection no less. Well heres an interesting fix...REPLENS or that PH stuff that you insert into the vagina. I tried it on a whim because I have such problems with monistat and my boss is giving me so much **** about missing work for appts, that I gave it a whirl. After the first dose I was cured. It was amazing. It only took like 2 hours and then BOOM no more symptoms! It was a miracle. Just thought I would share. Oh, btw the repelns are great for vaginal dryness that I always have, too much info I know , but i'm confident this will help someone!

                            Replens & Refresh

Replens and Refresh do not cure yeast or vaginal atrophy. They do relieve dryness as they are a moisturizer, and Refresh balances PH. If you notice a white curdy yeast looking discharge after using these products, it is not yeast but cells sloughing off from the vaginal wall.
If you really had a yeast infection, this would not have cured it, if you had vaginal dryness and low vaginal estrogen, it would give you relief.
