  • think I have a bladder infection

So, I was in "remission" not having any flares at all, so of course I ate as much chocolate as I wanted for a couple weeks , and it really wasn't bothering me. But then last week I started having little flares so I quit eating it, and....that's it I'm sticking to the diet! But the flares haven't gone away and just keep getting worse. Last week doc said I had a yeast infection and gave me diflucan. Don't know if I still have the infection, or if now its a bladder infection, but this really sucks!!!!! Have been racking my brain to figure out what caused this, then just now, I went to the bathroom and got this intense shooting pain in my abdomen (I always have that when I get an infection-yeast or bladder). So, now tomorrow I have to go give a specimen-Yippee!-and wait to see what it is. I should have known better. I used to get infections all the time! Is it weird that I can totally not think of it being an infection until I get that horrible pain? You'd think by now I'd be able to tell! Now I'm just ticked off!!!!!!!

I'm so sorry but, like we always say around here...I hope it is an infection. That can be taken care of and go away fast.

Oh gosh meme, I am sorry to hear that - but in a way if it is that's a good thing, lol. You can take some antibiotics and chase it away!!!! (the shooting pain was one of the things that would tip me off to a UTI as well!)

Sorry meme you are having that awful infection pain. I think it is hard to tell when you actually do have a UTI unless it is so bad you really know. Since the IC is sort of like having a UTI to begin with. Hope you get some relief tomorrow knowing but don't drop the specimen cup! They don't really like when that happens. Have done it so many times I should be a pro at it by now. They have started using plastic containers with lids. Good luck with tomorrow.

So sorry to hear that Meme, I know what you mean about the sharp stabbing pain, I had a cysto in the office on Tuesday and I'm having that as I type. It sucks!!! Hope you feel better soon

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

Yep, it was an infection.:woohoo: On 500mgs or Cipro for 3 days (on my last day now) Friday was hell! I was spending the weekend w/ my sis and nephews and I had to drive an hour to get there. As soon as I got into the car I knew it wasn't going to be good. It hurt so bad to sit. So I made it 15 miles to the next town (barely) and hung out in Wally World until it passed. I bought a pillow to sit on if I needed it, but an hour later when I got into the car I was fine. Made the rest of the trip, drank 2 huge glasses of water and didn't pee again for like 5hrs! Why is that? I hadn't drank a thing before and I peed probably 10 times in a hour, then all of the sudden it just stops!? Anyways, I'm feeling so much better now. Hopefully it stays this way. Had a great time w/ the nephews too. The youngest one took his first steps while I was there. Felt so bad for my sis though (the one w/ anxiety) she had a setback a couple weeks ago and can barely leave her house again. She did make it out to eat w/ me and the kids, but her doc gave her Lorazipan to take and it made her feel drunk then she passed out as soon as we got home. She did so good w/ me at Christmas time. I know exactly what she's going through, it takes so much to come back from a bad day.
