  • does water flush out germs?

I have a doozie of a cold my brother so nicely shared with me and my dad. My dad is 82 years old so he is having a hard time with it. I feel really lousy since I always feel like I have a cold so when I do get one I have 2 colds at the same time. Not to mention taking the asprins that kill the bladder. I was wondering if I can get down as much water as I can will that flush away the germs faster? I've had onioins (raw), chicken soup, vitamins and it's the 3rd day and still no relief. Good thing I don't feel like eating so lost 1 pound but will more then likely gain that back when I am fine. What gets me too is when my brother had the cold he sat for 3 days and did nothing. I get the cold (and he knows I have it by the way I sound, I haven't gone around complaining like he did) I still have housework to do. I don't mind taking care of people when they are sick but would be nice for them to do the same for me. House looks like a cyclone hit it but I am just trying to keep up with dishes and kill the germs on the counters and in the bathrooms and keep the towels washed everyday.

the best you can do for your cold is to let it run its course. Most of the cold meds aren't IC friendly. I don't think dirnking a ton of water would make much of a difference for you. Hope you feel better soon.

You might try a plain saline nasal spray to help clear your nasal passages. I know it's too late now, but sometimes a combination of using the spray and frequent handwashing will help avoid catching a cold that's going through a household.

I hope you feel better soon. This is a horrible time of year to catch cold.

Thanks Tiger Gal and Donna. It is awful having a cold now. Have spring cleaning in the house and yard work to get done. It would help a lot if people would learn to cover their mouth when they cough. Even if they don't have a cold.

Actually, if you cover your mouth with your hand, you are probably transmitting more germs to others than you would just coughing into the air. It's best to cover your mouth with your arm so you don't transmit those germs to doorknobs and everything else you touch.

If you go under the "search" engine and type in "benefits of drinking water" you will find lots of websites that talk about the benefits of water. Water does flush out toxins and waste. Give it a try and see what you come up with and if they tell you what you want to know.
