  • how long does your cold last?

It is day 4 now and I feel just as awful as I did on day 1. Of course my period started the other day so I ahve that to deal with too but this cold will not let up. I am so tired and achey still. I think the IC makes it harder to get over things like this.

I think it depends on the cold. I have had colds that went away after about six days (two coming, two here, two going ) --- but I've also had colds that seem to last forever. If I catch a cold in the spring, you can bet it will be here for at least six weeks because of the combination of cold virus and pollen.

Usually about a week, then a little longer with the coughing at night. Not fun.

I do have a trick though when I feel a cold coming on, that will sometimes chase it away. If I feel that one-sided sore throat which usually means a cold, I take the hottest shower I can stand, then drink hot water or peppermint tea, then go to bed really early with the electric blanket on high. I also gargle with salt water & rinse my nose with Simply Saline before going to bed. This has chased away colds at least 4 times this year. I'm constantly exposed to yucky germs as a teacher & this year has been especially bad, felt like some days I might as well be teaching in the ER with all the sick kids coming to school.

      Hope you feel better soon!

I just had a huge nasty cold a week ago. I had severe muscle aches and my nose was so stuffed it was awful! I also had the nasty cough that hangs on forever it seems. I dont think the IC per say is making your cold worse or hang on, just that probably since your body is constantly tyring to fight to make your bladder well ( the bodies natural response), that it makes it harder for our immune systems to fight these bugs when we get them. Hope you feel better real soon.

I have that awful achey muscle feeling too. I swear this afternoon I felt so bad I just wanted to die. Was feeling like going to the ER. Not sure if some of it could have been from not taking any vicodin since Thursday. Only asprins since this lovely cold started. Did break down and took half of the naproxen for the cramping so didn't feel quit so bad for about 1 hour. My brother is fine after just 4 days of the cold he brought into the house and here I am day 4 and feeling just as bad. I had just enough in me to make supper and get one load of dishes in teh dishwasher. Haven't had the coughing and hoping I don't. My dad does which is bad. I worry since he is 82. Why is it the ones who carry the cold germ gets better faster then the ones they spread it too?

Kadi, like your germ chasing ways. Will have to remember it if I can. I normally chase them away with raw onion but then the smell sometimes chases away the people too.

I'm hoping I get to feeling better by tomorrow. Tuesday I have a PT appointment that I don't want to have cancel.

Jen, you are right. It isn't the IC itself but my body always ahving to fight to be semi-well. I will say I am taking my viatimin everyday from now on! I very seldom ever got a cold before the IC. Except for when I was in school in germ heaven. Only get them from my family now. So nice of them to share.
