  • Biopsy is finally over!

Yesterday I had the muscle/nerve/tissue biopsy. It went well and now I have a 3 inch incision on the outside of my left ankle. The dr. told me to walk a half mile twice today.....and every day after to build up the never and muscle again. I did and tonight it's feeling pretty good.
My husband and I told every dr and nurse who deal with us yesterday at the hospital that I have Barrett's Esophagus and that I needed to be sitting up as soon as possible after surgery (I had to be laying prone, face down, for the surgery) So they set me up after surgery.....but I had HORRIBLE acid reflux pain! I thought I was going to die before the pain stopped. I asked the nurse if she could get me some honey.....because honey is coating and really helps with acid reflux. It took her 35 min to find honey and in the mean time a nurse brought me some acid reflux cocktail that burned all the way down when I drank it! Those of you who suffer from Barrett's can relate to all of this.
So anyway.....I'm sure glad that's all over with! Now I'm hoping the Rheumatologist will be able to figure out why I ache all the time and have the Caratine deficiency!
I hope everyone is having a pain-free weekend! Roxie

Ouch Roxie! That sure does sound painful. I'm so happy the procedure went well though and hopefully you'll have some answers soon. Let us know what you find out.
      Christine

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

Hey Roxie, glad it is over and you are feeling better.

Can you fill me in on whats going on. I must have missed your post. I hurt so bad all the time, I am sure there is more to it then Fibro and myofascial pain. sometimes I just can't lift my arms up, and feel like my legs are going to collaspe under me. The space between my heal and calf hurts so bad at time it takes all my effort to walk painfully.

Glad to hear it went well. I sure hope they get down to the bottom of this for you and that it's something they can help you with.

I was supposed to have a muscle biopsy done a few years ago but some moron doc who was supposed to do it decided i didn't need it. I travelled 14hrs by bus (each way) to a different province to be told he didn't think it was necessary. As a result, my neurologist dumped me saying if he couldn't do the test, she couldn't help me. 19yrs of symptoms later, i remain undiagnosed, even though I have been highly suspected of a specific condition for over 5 years- no one has been willing to do the required tests. Muscle biopsy might have helped, though not necessarily. It certainly would have ruled more things out and possibly shown some abnormalities i could have with the suspected condition.

keep us posted and i hope all goes well.

            HI Chantal!
Muscle biopsie's are no fun at all......but they do help rule out some things. My Rheumatologist said he "hopes the biopsy doesn't show anything because if it does that will be a very serious problem" so now I'm scared about the results and I won't get the results for a month! The lab only turns on the electron microscope when they have 3 or 4 biopsies to test......so now it's sit and wait time! UGH!!!!!!
I had IC symptoms for over 20 yrs and never got an diagnosis. I think dr.s these days are more informed and have more of an idea of that's going on when we show up with these symptoms......at least I hope they do! Roxie

Roxie I am so sorry you was in so much pain after the surgery due to acid reflux. I can't imagine having one of those attacks in front of everyone. I hate people watching me when I am in pain but since you were in the hospital I'm surprise they couldn't give you something that would have helped you immediately.

I am glad the biospy is over. Sure do hope you start feeling better soon. I wonder why it is so hard to find out what is causing all of this. I know so many people feel like you do about the aches and pains and yet can't figure what is going on. I hope soon answers will be found and a simple solution to it.

              Sending hugs, Trishann

                HI Trishann,
I'm glad the biopsy is overwith too. It was fun. I'm walking pretty good now and even drove to my dr. appt today! It's going to take a month to get the test results back because the Lab only turns on their Electron Microscope when they have more than 4 or 5 biopsies to test. So now I sit and wait.
I hope they figure out what's causing all this achyness. It's crazy how many of us with IC have achyness! Take care Trishann, Roxie
