  • Detrol question

Hi all- haven't been very active here lately because I thought that I really had a handle on things. Ha.

I'm wondering if anyone else had this experience with Detrol LA (4mg to be specific) wherein it worked really well for ~3 months and then declined in effectiveness. Why did most of you who tried Detrol end up going off it?

I did try introducing some foods back into my diet, but it seems like the Detrol just isn't working as well in general. I almost want to ask my uro if I can double up my dosage or something- it really was helping for awhile here.

    Any thoughts? Thanks for listening.
I had major surgery for a genetic rectal prolapse in Aug.05 which I believe links directly to my new Dx of....PFD! March.08. I'm working with a great PT named Zelda- I think the world of her I have the same feelings for the team at the Kaiser Center for Pelvic Pain in SF- amazing people.

I've had a cystoscopy, 2 cat scans, falied a potassium test and have had about 50 clean UA's.
This is my hot water bottle- the fish. I love him!
I'm also a big fan of my "Electric Fish," the TENS unit. Very helpful in a flare!

    **I'm getting Botox next week!**
    I take:
    Oxybutynin 10mg
    Elmiron 100mg 3x day
    Gabapentin 300mg 3x day
Antihistamine, CystaQ, Bc, & Thyroid (125mcg) nightly

    I've also taken:
    Detrol LA
Oxybutynin patch and lower dose pill
    Amitryptiline and Nortryptiline

I was on Detrol for a few weeks; had to come off of it due to retention.

If you feel you were benefiting from the medication, by all means relay this information to your Dr and he/she will be able to tell you if its OK to increase your dosage.

    Feel better!
PS--your hot water bottle is very cute!

You might want to eliminate the foods you added to see if that helps before changing medications/dosages.

Just a thought, but some foods can be very irritating.

Jess my doctor told me that double the dose will not do a better job, but I am taking Detrol LA. I have been trying to get off of it, because the heat problems I have with it. Just being out in the sun short period of times, I came close to having a heat stroke. I love being outside but this medicine was making it difficult to do so.

I will still take it when it is really bad and that seems to really work for me. My other doctor has me on pain pills and maybe that is why I don't have to take it all the time. I know detrol is not a pain pill but it help with spasms and I think the pain medicine is helping with that problem.

I do think sometimes medicine after awhile don't work as well. Maybe taking something with it will help.

Hope you can find something that will work for you.

          Take care, Trishann

I tried it years ago and it did nothing for me, that's why I went off it.
