Laparoscopy- Endometriosis?

    Laparoscopy- Endometriosis?

    My uro wants me to have laparoscopy to check for endometriosis. They will also go in again and look to see how bad IC I have with a hydro while I am under. Last urologist did that in his office with no anthesia.

    I guess I am just worried that once again they are going in poking around and will make things worse?

    Anyone elsehave IC and have had endro>?

    After I was diagnosed with intersitital cystitis and was not respoding to treatment, my urologist sent me to an OB/GYN to be sure I did not also have endometriosis. I did have a laparoscopy and ended up not being diagnosed. In the end, though, I was glad I had it done and now I know.

    Their was an excellent book I read before I dedcided to have the laparoscopy, called "The Endometriosis Soursebook," by Mary Lou Bellweg (editor)and The Endometriosis Associatiion. It is worth reading.

      Hi,
      Yup, happened to me too. My IC came on right after I quit 10 years of birth control pills & several years on SSRI's and my urologist was certain it was endometriosis & refused to treat me til I'd had laparoscopy. No endometriosis there at all. I am now a big fan of the second or even third opinion, especially as it relates to IC.

      Current treatments:
      -IC diet
      -Elavil 50mg at night
      -Continuous use birth control pills (4-5 periods/year)
      -Heparin/Marcaine/Sodium Bicarb home instills at night 3-4x per week, more often if needed
      -Pyridium if needed,
      -Pain medicine at bedtime daily, as needed during the day several times per week
      -Antibiotic when doing an instillation to prevent UTI
      -Colace & SmartFiber to treat chronic constipation from meds, Fleet enema as needed
      -Dye Free Benadryl 50 mg at bedtime
      -"Your Pace Yoga: Relieving Pelvic Pain" dvd, walking, treadmill at gym
      -Managing stress= VERY important!
      -Fur therapy: Hugging the cat!

        Thanks...... I was dx with IC 2 months ago from another urologist I have been seening for over 5 years for small bladder, narrow urethra, and frequency, I have been able to keep those things at bay with dectrol for 5 years until after I had my son 2 years ago.... things have pregressivly gotten worse these last 6 months, where my uro went in and saw IC cracked and pin point bleeding my my bladder walls...... I am currently on emroil 600mg, **** (evaile?) pill and clairtain..... not to mention dectrol and urimax for when the pain is bad.....

        thanks for your replies..... I found this new Dr who is OBGYN and bladder problems for woman through my midwife when I had my yearly exam a few weeks ago.....

        any words of advice to prepare for laparoscopy?????

          I had a laparascopy right before I was diagnosed with IC. I had endometriosis on the underside of my bladder. It helped to get that lasered off--although turning my bladder upside down wasn't fun. I didn't flare or anything from it, though. The surgery wasn't bad, but I did have a few days where I couldn't get out of bed without DH's help...sore bladder, incision below bellybutton. DH would put his arms around me and I put my arms around his neck and he slowly stood up until I was sitting up...then I could stand up. Since you'll be peeing a lot from the IC, you might want to have someone with you who can help you up. I hope the surgery help. Sending you hugs. grouphug

            Advice for laparoscopy-
            1. Best piece of advice?? Wear something soft home from the hospital (I wore a loose dress with no waistband).
            2. Have pain prescription meds already picked up from pharmacy in advance. (I used Darvocet for 2 days & the pain wasn't bad).
            3. Have a few favorite videos ready to watch if you can't sleep afterwards (I had more frequency than usual afterwards due to catheterization during surgery, but my IC was untreated at that point, so that may not apply to you...)

            Hope the surgery goes well & best wishes for a speedy and gentle recovery!

              I had my first lap @ age 19. I am now 27 and have had 5 of them. If you have Endo & they carterize it you should feel a lot less pain after the surgery pain is gone. Mine has.When you wake up you are very sore but it is kind of a relief because it is a different pain. That probably sounds weird but when you have the nagging Endo pain for months it is nice to not feel it anymore. I am an old pro @ these now. Make sure to use a heating pad it really helps & last time I bought a big pillow to sort of prop me up that feels better because it hurts to stretch those muscles out. Most important is try to take it easy or you won't heal properly. Also, for me, I ask for extra of those fish net looking undies that the hospital gives you because you can't feel that they are on & you will have bleeding if they carterize any Endo.                 I have had so many laps in my life. My first one was in my 2o's and that is when they admitted you for a few days and did the operation. I did have endo and finally had a hysecromy in 91 to removove all the endo. But I had ic also. wear something loose, pain pills ready, heating pads, have someone drive you and drive you home and stay with you for the day and night and rest and rest. Please let us know how you make out. I will be praying for you.
