lberry's right. I have Lyme and am totally alcohol intolerant now. I used to get prolonged hangover from it also when I used to drink. And Lyme can get misdiagnosed as fibro, IC, etc etc.

    possible problem

Have you by any chance been tested for Lyme disease? Because this hangover feeling I've heard can be one of its' manifestations, also fibro, chronic fatigue, interstitial cystitis, neuralgia, ms, irritable bowel, allergies, etc

    hangover feeling

    Sharon,

I know you posted this awhile ago but I am new here and just read your posting.
I used to drink with no ill effects. Then one day I woke up with a severe hangover. Each time I drank I would continually get worse for days after. Sometimes this lasted up to a week. I also developed flu like symptoms along with this. I didn't start my periods but I did have severly painfull periods.
Observers thought I had developed an allergy to alcohol. Even if I only drank a few drinks I would always have that reaction. 20 years ago I stopped drinking and in that time have only drank 4 or 5 times each resulting in that hungover feeling for days on end. I haven't touched a drink in 11 years because the symptoms got so bad they frightened me.

In 1995 I got Fibromyalgia. The doctors told me they could not give pain pills for IC and Fibromyalgia. So they put me on Ibuprofen and other NSAIDS, continually increasing the dose. I then started developing the symoptoms I had with alcohol with the NSAIDS. The dosage was increased. I now no longer felt hungover I felt like I was drugged many times to the point of feeling like I was trying to come out of anesthetic. I also started swelling.
It got so bad I could no longer bathe myself or do anything. I laid like that for years.
One day I virtually stumbled into the pharmacy and when they saw me they refused to ever fill my NSAIDS again. Not only because I was stumbling but because I was so swollen with fluid.

I am now off NSAIDS but whenever they take away my pain medication or I eat something wrong that horrible drugged feeling comes back and I will swell. Like you say it looks like I am having an allergic reaction.
oh and I forgot I also started having this reaction after I used different chemicals to clean my house.

It not only has been hard on me and my family but it has caused me many problems with finding someone who will stay with me in the medical field.

I wish I had an answer.
I hope it helps that at least you know someone else out there has experienced this. I know I've been all alone with these symptoms for years.

    My thoughts are with you,
    Nancy

I have hypoglycemia - so it could be sugar related.
Unfortuntly, this is not the first time this has happened to me. As stupid as this sounds - I've been retrying to have a drink or two for the last four years, always thinking I'd feel differently and always having days and days of feeling totally horrible. So I know that I don't have the flu or a bug or anything.

Are you taking any medications? If so, the alcoholic beverage might have interacted with them. However, it shouldn't last this long --- I have to wonder if you have picked up a "bug" --- I do think it would be a good idea to be in touch with your doctor.

    Sending healing thoughts,
    Donna

    started a topic Hangover feeling

    Hangover feeling

I wasn't sure where to post this topic - anyway here I go.
New Years Eve I had a couple of drinks and I knew I was going to pay for it. I haven't drank in over a year or more and have had problems with alchohol my whole life. I think the only way I was really able to stop was because the IC pain and everything else that came with it was too severe. Well, New Years I had two beers and a Baileys. Now - 3 days later I still have a hangover. This is one of the reasons I stopped drinking also (besides the other hundred reasons) - sometimes I would have a 5 day hangover. The thing is - instead of each day it getting better - the feeling gets worse. I'm taking extra vitamins and drinking tons of water and it won't go away. Not only that but I'm still nursing my new baby (which I took care of the problem with the breastmilk when I drank) and I'm not suppossed to get my period for a very long time and now I'm starting to spot! I think I'm getting my period! This happened to me a couple of times before when I drank. I felt horrible for days - then got my period.
Can anybody have an explanation for this? I mean I know the solution is not to drink which I'm defintly not going to do but this feeling has happened to me in just eating certain things. I've gotten this "hangover feeling" sometimes when I eat too much chocalate. Has anyone else ever gotten this?
Most of all - How can I start feeling better. I'm going on my third day and I can't deal with it anymore. As the day goes on I feel worse and worse. I'm drinking all the water I can. If I wake up tomorrow and feel like this again (which I can tell I will) I can't take it anymore.
I don't know - its just really weird. Maybe its like an allergy of some sort or something.

    Sharon
