Gallbladder/Pancreatitis/PAIN

And if you ever need a colonoscopy done, get the drugs!! My doc said I'd be fine so I was going to go for it. Until a few people who'd had it done had said it was way more than uncomfortable. So I took the "good stuff" and was fine for that. blink
Hey Donna, I don't really know if that was the case with that lady. But if that was, then I don't want it to happen to me. eek
And I'm not in pain. But it has gone from here and there discomfort to everyday discomfort. So unfortunately it might be in my future .

Jaime, I would discuss your doctor what that lady told you about fainting after eating or drinking. I have never heard of anyone doing that unless there was a real problem with her esophagus or throat, which would be easily diagnosed.

Going after a stone with a scope isn't my idea of a pleasant way of spending an afternoon (or morning), but it beats spending days and days in pain.

Hi Jaime!

I had the scope done a few days before I had my gallbladder out (5/01). It was called an ERCP and I was scared to death about it. I told them to just do the surgery, I wasn't scared of that. But, the dr said he needed to do the ERCP first to check the duct and make sure there wasn't a stone there. It went very fine....really. I was all scared for nothing. They gave me the "twilight" meds and it was all okay. I didn't gag (they used a numbing spray on my throat), didn't care what they were doing and had no after-affects at all. We went home a couple hours later and I was pleasantly surprised by the whole thing. I know they can reach up and grab a stone if there's one there, fortunately, I didn't have any stuck there at the time and it was very quick.

So, for anyone who ever needs to have one done, just make sure you're comfortable with the GI dr doing it and let him know your concerns...then try not to worry. I only hope that if I ever need a colonoscopy, I can have the same good experience. :-)

Teri, I hope they can get to the bottom of what's going on in your body. I'm sorry removing your gallbladder wasn't the answer you hoped for. Sending healing and strengthening prayers your way.

Thanks Donna. I met a lady who had a scope procedure done and a condition developed where when she drank or ate anything, she fainted. Doctors couldn't understand why.
I was just checking out in her lane at JC Penneys and she told me this. I asked her if the fainting started after they did that scope on her throat. She said it did. But no one put two and two together??? At least that gave her something to talk to her MD about. I don't know if she ever got anywhere with it though. Haven't seen her since.
Now that's why I'd be scared to do it. It's just my luck for something to be fixed while something else gets messed up. eek
Maybe someday when I've had enough with the discomfort, I'll get it done. I just try to stay away from high fat foods. frown

jaime, my mother developed a stone in her common duct years after she had her gall bladder removed. They gave her sedation and put a scope in and removed the stone without any cutting at all --- and she was discharged from the hospital the following morning.

After I had my gall bladder removed it took me several weeks to totally get rid of the discomfort I had with the gall bladder --- I didn't have the acute pain some people get. Mine was what they called a chronic condition; I wasn't really horribly painful, but the discomfort didn't go away.

When I had mine out in April 02 they said there were stones left behind. Well hello??? Didn't I just pay them to take all that crap out??? And give me a bunch of little scars??
I'm such a chicken anymore over any kind of tubes, surgeries, etc...I won't go back and let them get the stones. I guess when I've had enough of the pressure and crap I will. But ya'll will probably be the ones to hear my belly aching. wink
What will you have to do for the pancreaitis thing?

Hugs to begin with. When I had my gallbladder out last year, my surgeon told me if the pain continued there was a chance that a stone had got caught in the duct. If that happened I had to go to a gastroentrologist for them to run a scope down through my mouth to get the stone. So hopefully that is not what is going on and it is just going to take a few days for your body to settle down.

I had gallbladder surgery 9 years ago and was still having problems after. They did decide I also had irritable bowel syndrome. Got me on meds and after 6-8 months everything started clearing up. I do okay now..take Prilose for reflux but am not on IBS meds anymore. Good luck!

Oh Teri, you sure have had a bummer of a year. Hope that next year turns around, to let good things happen for you. Hope that you start feeling a little better soon. Hey Teri,
good grief, good grief, good grief. I hope having your gallbladder out eventually settles down some of the gastro pain. It took awhile for mine to settle down as it had gone too far when it came out, but it did eventually. I think 2004 has got to be a better year for you...

My father paid for it but the dentist also was very good with the paying method. Teri you will be in my prayers and thoughts. I have missed you so much.

Sorry to hear. Sounds like you have more than anyone should have to deal with. I don't know about the meds being your teeth problem. I would think that would mean I would have more problems with my teethe. I thought my increased teeth problems were because hromes were affecting my calcium levels.....and the fact that not feeling well hasn't encouraged me to take great care of myself, although I am trying to find ways to work around the things that are hard but still necessary to do. Anyway..Best of Luck on a great big better 2004.

Welp, I had my gallbladder taken out on Tues and the surgeon told me up front that it might not stop the pain I'm having at the top of the breast bone and running under the breast.....welp, the friggin' pain is still there. The only thing the surgery was good for was loosing my gallbladder and being in horrible horrible pain for 2 days.

I guess I'm going to have to have another blood workup done to see if the pancreatitis is back (actually I don't think it ever went away) The nausea is unbearable......I constantly have something close by incase I have to throw up. It seems like every dang thing I do to try to make my life just a tiny bit better blows up in my face.

I've been having some very expensive dental work done and today the dentist told me exactly how much damage has been done to my teeth and I don't know what we are going to do to pay for it....I always said I'd have my teeth pulled but when it came right down to it, I just couldn't do it. The damage has all been caused by all the throwing up I do and the reflux and it all happened in a short 2 yearsand all the med's I'm taking

2004 has just GOT to be my year because the last 2 sure have sucked
