  • Rectocele Repair Recovery

I am having a rectocele and cystocele repair via the vagina on February 14th. Can anyone tell me what the recovery and pain were like? The urologist said no discomfort from the cystocele repair, but that the rectocele repair will feel like I am sitting on a ball.

    Thanks for your help.

Hi Nancy. I had rectocele repair last year around March. I was rather miserable for about a week. The Doctor gave me pain meds which helped greatly. Boy I am glad I had it done. I feel so much better now. I had no idea what problems I was having until it was fixed. I just thought it was that way due to my IC. Talk to your Doctor about taking Miralax. You don't want anything hard passing through your bowels. I don't know anything about cystocele but it seems reasonable to have it all done at once. I had a Hydrodistention done while I was "out" I asked for a face lift since I would be under but the Doctor said only one end at a time! That's a joke of course. We did have a laugh about it. Nice Doctor and wonderful care. If you are hurting do speak up. They want to help you. Best of luck. Hugs and keep us in the loop. Ziggy

      Hi Ziggy -

Thanks so much for your reply. I was told that it probably would feel like I am sitting on a ball for a week or so. I already take Miralax for constipation because of some meds I am on, so I am covered there. Did you need to buy a donut to sit on or did you just lie down for a week or so? Could you tell me what kind of pain meds you needed? I have a great gyno and can have what I want. Usually, I take Lorcet 10/650, same as Vicodin.

      Thanks,

      NancyB

I had a cystocele and rectocele repaired 7.5 yrs ago, along with a hysterectomy. The surgery took 45 minutes and the recovery was uneventful. I had pain from the hysterectomy; minimal discomfort from the repairs. I was given Vicodin for pain relief and was off of that by day 3. Walking is going to be your friend. Also, once youre cleared be sure to do Kegels as the surgery will cause weakness on the pelvic floor.

        Good luck.

Hey Nancy. I mostly stayed in bed for some time. Can't remember how long. I never used a donut. I have a very comfortable chair and used that. I used Percocet but whatever works for you is all that is important. For me the whole thing was a lot less miserable then I thought it would be. You are having more done then I did so it's hard to say what is ahead. I really think once you recuperate you will be very happy you had it done. Hugs, Ziggy
